yep the turning point for me was that miss after the long rally...poor poor miss. It looked to me he was going to forehand volley it but then he changed his mind and backhanded it

Marat pulls some of the most disgusting efforts this year.. simply pathetic to watch.. he is about 50% of the player he used to be but he can still easily beat guys like Robredo.. only a little effort required and he had none of it today..
His typical match consists of hitting 1 bad shot and then tanking 3-4 shots because he was still upset of that one.. then playing 4-5 decent shots, missing another one on big points and then tanking 3-4 shots again.. its amature tennis ..
and about his game overall:
1. His serve is non existent right now.. he has less lift in his legs and especially second serve suffers a lot.. he never ever double faulted more than 3 times in a match, now he does it 4-5 times and on big points too.
2. He has NO first serve return.. no explosive movement..
3. His forehand as crappy as it used to be seems to be misfiring even more now..
4. backhand is the only shot that is more or less decent.. but even that today he made about 25 UE off that side..
5. No defense..
His knee issues were/are more serious than I thought unfortunately..
and has even bigger issues with his head..

Does he have the same coach, if that is the same guy then his coach is not looking good at all.
I think that it is from multiple problems, eveyone in his camp needs to be refreshed and reved back up, all the time off and slacking off just caught up to everyone.

He was fined for tanking in R1 of AO in 1998 & it's a long time for you to be holding a grudge. Time for you to get over it, although I don't think Marat really cares one bit whether you not like him or not.
PS he thinks gambling is wrong.....he works for his money.

It's a real pain watching Safin these days. What a waste of talent. Right words, wrong actions. I hope he will find some strengh to raise his game a notch, otherwise it will be really hard for him to go on like this.
