Safin or Federer beating Sampras?

Marat Safin conclusively owned Pete Sampras in straight sets at the 2000 US Open, a year before Roger Federer ended his Wimbledon run.
Given that a lot is often made of the Federer victory between both 'fan-camps' (i.e. in the 'Sampras - Federer: who would win in their primes' threads), which of the two victories if more impressive?

Most people agree that Sampras was steadily on-the-slide from 1999, but which is the better win?

Safin, he played perfectly immaculate. Sampras definately didnt play a bad game, Safin was just perfect.

Saw Safin & Sampras play early rounds at 2000 US Open. Sampras was a heavy favorite going into that match.

I told my friends Safin would win & it wouldn't be that close. He looked very impressive in the early rounds. He has much game, more than Federer when he wants it.

Sampras looked like a shadow of himself. He was winning the early rounds but I was not impressed.

Too bad I wasn't in Vegas at the time
