Sam Querrey improved movement, and backhand.

Querrey notched a very good, straight sets win over Stepanek, one of the hottest players on tour. Watching the match, it looked to me like Querrey is moving better then ever and his backhand looks smoother. It looks like he's been training hard. His physique seemed more well built, not near as lanky as he used to be.

America's future. Loved the way he played in a loss against Nadal, last year, on clay, in Spain, in his Davis Cup debut. I like his serve, movemant and groundstrokes. Just needs to work on touch shots and returns.

I watched the Koellerer match instead online. But, checked in with Sam on occasion. Taking into consideration how well Stepanek is playing--Sam got a great "W" here tonight. I'll agree--playing good tennis.

Sam's serve is a complete cannon too. Don't want to make too much out of one match, but there were some great moments where absolutely dropped the hammer when Stepanek was pressuring his service games. I think Querrey is the real deal.

Querrey is the first American since Chang/Agassi/Courier that has showed promise on clay. I love that about him :)

i think theres a big upside to sam. hes got a good game that you can see devolping. his not like a lot of promising young players where at 18-20 there fully developed and what they have is what is it for the rest of there career. i see him more in the mold of a todd martin where it might take him a little longer to find his groove but when he does he will be very good.

I agree--if I had to put hype in an American right now--it would be Sam.

At 6'6" the high bounce won't bother Querrey very much. And I've noticed that he has started to throw in different looks on the forehand. It's not just a huge flat stroke and more. He's started dictating with it by creating angles more. He's a smart guy, really thinking out there I think. Very encouraging.

I love how relaxed he is in life and on the court. I sometimes want more passion out of him--but his being so relaxed just allows for peace on the court and good things to come. I now wish I had paid more attention to the match tonight.

YES, i noticed the movement as well. I would like to know who he has been working with lately. and i also like to know what training regimen he is using to improve his movement.
His movement was bar NONE better than i have ever seen him. He looked just like Marat Safin when he was young. He was that FAST.

He started taking tennis seriously (as in pro aspirations) very late from what I hear, so that may be why he hasn't actually fully developed completely as a tennis player.

could be. hes also very tall. for some reason tall players tend to struggle early in there career. when i look at him i just see alot of todd martin qualities. nothing that blows me away but everything is very solid.

A very close loss to Wawrinka. It was really decided by a point here and there. I really enjoyed watching it even though I was rooting for Sam. Hopefully he just regroups and doesn't let it effect him. No shame losing to Stan in that close a match.

Sam vs Wawrinka was the best match that i saw Sat-Tuesday.

It was incredibly close, with both players saving match points. Sam had a bp at 5-5 in the 3rd and Wawrika came up with a sweet 132 mph ace.

In the final point, sam was dictating with the FH x court and finally went down the line to the sweet wawrinka bh, where he clearly had the advantage. Stan hit a high deep heavy one, Sam's reply was a little short, stan hit a nice angle and sam went for a drop shot, only to watch a heart breaking pass go by.

Great match!!!
