Sampras/Fed

He continued winning Wimbledon despite not playing very well until late June in each of those years. I'm not even considering post-Wimbledon as he continued his overall fine performance with SF, F appearances in US Opens and Masters Cup.

Let's take a look.

1998:

AO - QF
IW - 3R
Miami - 3R
Monte Carlo - 3R
Rome - 3R
FO - 2R

1999:

AO - Absent
IW - 2R
Miami - QF
Monte Carlo - Absent
Rome - 2R
FO - 2R
Queens Club - Win

2000:

AO - SF
IW - QF
Miami - Win
Monte Carlo - Absent
Rome - Absent
FO - 1R

So absolutely no indication coming into Wimbledon except for 1999 winning Queens that he would win that slam. Besides, other players have won grass-court tuneups w/o winning Wimbledon. Bottom line, Roger can't be written off from being the No. 1 favorite for Wimbledon until he finally loses it.

Well nobody is saying that Federer won't win Wimbledon. Even if Fed loses in first round of Hamburg and first round of French Open I am still sure that Fed will easily win Wimbledon. The only players that have the talent to beat Fed in Wimbledon are Nadal and Djokovic but unfortunately they do not have enough experience yet to accomplish that and the fact that there is only one grass court tournament to prepare them for Wimbledon does not really help them beat Fed this year. However in one year or two years Fed will lose. However this year's US Open will be unpredictable. My prediction is that either Nadal, Djokovic, Murray, or Fed will win.
