Sampras: Federer is playing better now, than 10 years ago.

In order to prove that RF was prime only before Novak and Rafa became great i.e. in 2003-2006 some people will deny any suggestions that RF might be playing his best tennis in recent years.
They can't win either way, since if he was prime from 2004-2007, then he won his majors beating morons like Roddick and Hewitt, or baby/faded greats like Nadal, Nolan/Grandpassi, whereas Nadal and Nolan beat Freddie and each other to win theirs. Let them eat the cake they ask for and show them how it tastes, I say.

Federer was no longer in his peak by 2007, that was prime federer. Prime federer though a great player was a shadow of his peak and this is were most of the anti fed myths like mentaly weak, h2h loser, weak backhand..... stem from. None of these things were true about peak fed.

Agreed. Some RF fans, in their quest to prove RF's invincibility, started a whole plethora of absurd excuses: Mono era, past his prime, clay doesn't count, they are younger hence at an advantage (even when they were 15, it seems), Nadal dopes, Novak probably dopes, the courts/balls are too slow... it goes on and on.

But every single excuse has been proven wrong, either by time or logic.

Federer was invincible at his peak, after it ended multiple factors conspired against him when he was vulnerable. Mono ruined 2008 until us open, he has been post prime since 2010 wtf, peak fed was nadals equal on clay, being younger is a HUGE advantage if fed was younger he would be owning them in h2h and titles, the slowing of the courts to such a ridiculous level points to a conspiracy against fed, wimby is slower than the french now and the us open is breaking low speed records.

All of these things are true and should make people have empathy for fed. No other GOAT deals with as much adversity.

When was this mythical peak Fed? 2003? 2004? 2005? It seems like whenever you try to isolate this legendary being, Fedfans always push him out of your grasp.

That was a great rant... Full of great one-liners and punchlines.

I especially enjoyed the conspiracy theory - in a tennis world that's totally pro-RF. So all the media and the ATP are pro-RF yet somehow... they conspire to make him lose...

???

Also amusing is how a wealthy kid from a stable nation had the MOST ADVERSITY in their life. Nadal having had 50 injuries and 90 surgeries and Novak coming from a war-torn country and being booed by 15000 people in all matches vs RF are clearly nothing in comparison to Fed's Ghostly Mono, or the various conspiracies against him by a press that detests him...

Peak fed was 2003 tmc - aus open 2007. He became prime fed right after. He just wasnt the same, looping his forehand, losing to randos in masters, getting pushed by clay courters to 5....

The slowing of the courts has been well documented. Its a concerted effort by the highest echelons of tennis power. They were laughing at fed as they anounced this year that us open was permantly changed to a super slow surface just the way rafa likes it. Wimby was so slow they tried to cover it up by giving rafa a "tough" draw. If it was even normal speed he would have crushed novak.

The slowing of the courts was done to favor the general style of tennis that Fed plays, lengthy baseline rallies, with lots of flashy shotmaking to impress crowds. As he's gotten older and less capable of playing this kind of tennis, conditions favor players who are younger and fitter, but that's just the way it goes. Can't expect the whole world to literally revolve around the Maestro forever.

So Peak Fed loses to injured Kuerten at the French?

Petros ... I don't know when Federer's prime was but it's clear as daylight you're in the prime of your posting years, taking the Federer fans to the cleaners, LOL! :)

Is it my prime or my peak? Wait, don't say! Don't want people saying I took advantage of a weak era later on.

Sampras is probably better now than he was 20 years ago. John McEnroe is probably better now than he was 35 years ago. It's doubtful that Laver is better now than he was 50 years ago. But I guess anything is possible with lots of practice.

Did not know they were still playing.

"With Roger I'm amazed," said Sampras. "He's 34 now, he's still ranked two, three in the world. He's competing for majors, he's still playing great tennis.

"He's almost playing better now than he did 10 ten years ago. He's improving!"

My 2 cents.

"Still playing great tennis" and "almost playing better now" does not even come close to "playing his best ever".

Sampras is right though. Fed was improving from the decline in certain areas of his game.

The whole world know that. Even though there was clear peak, Fed haters can't seem to come to grasp.

A consecutive 23 slam SF happens only during ones peak. By the way, can anyone point to Nadal's/Djoko's peak??

So Fed was in his peak until French Open 2010? Then what, immediately transitioned to out of his prime codger over the next year, SKIPPING prime? Or his prime lasted less than a year, after which he won Wimbledon and broke the all time #1 record? LOL!!!!!
You just PROVED that Nolan beat a PRIME Fed at the Open back to back years, and strengthened his overall GOAT case.

Fed declined after 2010 reaching 19 SF's in the next 9 years. Fed proved at Wimb 2012 you dont have to be in your prime to beat a weak era. Murray final. :-D:-D:-D

Prime Fed for you, declined Fed a GS winner again for me, happened because of the weak era 2011 onwards with finals like Murray. LOL

You can see right through Pete’s words here. There’s just no sincerity whatsoever, only soundbites and one liners.

To defend Rafa, he’s an honest guy who speaks the truth. He knows they aren’t as good as before.

For some, those one liners are considered as word from the highest order. On top that they can't differentiate between fact (Fed is currently GOAT) vs fiction (Fed is currently playing his best tennis ever)

Hola my soon-to-be drinking friend. Yes he did, when Berdych and Tsonga showed him the door back to back years in the quarters.
Not when he was 25 years old lmao. Pete could have gotten blown off the court by the likes of Anderson if they played peak for peak.

But your boy lost to scrubs (your label, not mine) in back to back years at the "Open". How can he have a case, and better yet, why have all you Sampras trolls come out of the woodwork after it came to fruition years ago just how weak the period was that Sampras dominated? Even for a layman they can see Pete had it far easier than any of the Big 3.

Even Baby Scud beat a peak Sampras in a major tournament, in straight sets nonetheless.

Fed got old at 26, while Djokovic and Nadal are still young at 32-33.

Strange.

Fed's peak ended when his opponents were the Big4 and no more Roddick, Bagdhatis.

Strange too.
