SAP Open Practice

RogerRacket111

Semi-Pro
I'm fortunate to play in a club where the pro's come out to practice for SAP Open at San Jose. I just wanted to share with you guys.

I got to see some of the pros like Kei Nishikore, Donald Young, Falla, Robert Kendrick, Ryan Sweeting. The practice line up also had Monfils, Hewitt, Verdasco, Del Potro, Blake!!! But they didn't show up I'm guessing they were jet-lagged or found a closer location to practice.

Some of these guys might not be in the top 10 or 100 but still watching pro's up close in the same courts I play everyday was fun. This is an indoor location. They all have one hour blocks they practice and seem to have the same routine.

Very slow Hit (Most amateurs miss this)
Ramp up To Hard Hitting down the middle
Progress to real points like hitting
Volleys
Overhead
Serve practice
Real Points with serve

The amount of spin they generate is amazing to watch. They also seemed to let it loose a lot more than they would in a match. The serves were amazing to watch at the ground level. But at some points I was left thinking I could hit that hard and that doesn't look different from some of my points.

They were practicing with "Yonex Tour 1" balls for the SAP open. I grabbed a few. All in all it was fun. Watching the Pros at ground level and in the baseline(We have see through nylon barrier in the baseline) is a lot of fun

Yea, its true, they dont hit any harder that the college guys, but have amazing anticipation and footwork. Remember most pros points come off of a winner, and most college points come of of the unforced error. Anticipation is the key. Just look at this, its soo amazing how pros are in the right place at the right time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChqLtLPCecg

Are you at los gatos swim and racket? Or courtside?

I bet he's at Courtside. They have even had main draw doubles matches there in the past. I play at LGSRC and haven't seen the SAP'ers there. However, I haven't been there in about a week.
