Saudi Arabia Looking To Buy Miami Or Madrid

Miami is the one. They should absolutely sell. That parking lot open is an abomination to what was once a beautiful tournament. I think that deal probably gets done. Also works with the scheduling of the tournament as well, they could fold it into the Dubai portion of the calendar

I honestly see no purpose. Have you seen what the crowds they are getting at these soccer matches with all these big stars? They are horrible. I guess if you dont mind watching matches with no one there thats nice.
I think tennis would be different. It would be all the top players at one event, not all spread out through a league.

Yea ok. They are drawing like a thousand people a match for most of the matches. Its pathetic. I honestly dont care but I think people overestimate the actual interest there. Not to mention the political issues it would incur. With everything going on in the Middle East, and technically Saudi Arabia is still in an active war against Houtis in Yemen. Nice time for a missile attack.

I searched for videos and saw a lot of spectators in the stands.

I wouldn't mind if they ditch Miami. This tournament is the shadow of what it was when it was held in Key Beyscane. Now it's in that Hard Rock Stadium... empty most of the time, it's depressing. Quality of play also degraded a lot since 2019.

But Madrid? That would mean 7 Masters on HC and 2 on clay instead of 6-3? Wouldn't be fair for clay specialists.

Stay out please. For sure don’t take my home tournament just to plant some artificial hard court tournament. Yeah, it’s a downgrade from Crandon, sure. But let’s not all pretend that Crandon was some Mecca either. That set up was getting really outdated and this is from somebody who loved the tournament. Trash littered, grounds layout wasn’t the best, catering was shaky for the price and there were long lines to for bathrooms in a trailer. They were going to redo it and the plans looked amazing, but the family in charge didn’t agree ultimately. Unfortunate, but not everything can be like Indian Wells. Regardless, having Miami on the calendar should be borderline non-negotiable. SoFlo is the capital of world tennis and it is important to have a quality tournament here for the sport and culture.

Meanwhile Madrid and Paris can **** off, one doesn’t even play that much like a clay court tournament and the other is a Mickey Mouse show. Look at the second court of Paris or any of the other ones and tell me that is one of the most premier events of the sport. Should be absolutely axed especially with Roland Garros in town. If the Saudis really want, they can poach that garbage and be the ones who will actually invest in a really nice indoor venue. Can’t see anyone else actually being loose enough with cash to do so so they could have their own thing in that regard. Or at least make it a grass masters which we desperately need

I replied to your post: "Have you seen what the crowds they are getting at these soccer matches with all these big stars? They are horrible."
They are horrible. Even the biggest clubs with the biggest stars are averaging in the mid 20,000. Heck even the MLS in the states draws way way way way way more than that. The lowest average in the states is 15,000. The highest is 47,000. Again you guys want to move these tournaments complain about Madrid, or Miami. Good lord wait till you get to Saudi. Good money for the tour I will bet. But people there aint gonna care. Its like all this Chinese stuff over the last two decades. Sure take the money but they have very little fans showing up. I dont even watch. Its like watching players, play in a bath tub.

The average attendance is 8,150. Thats basically English 3rd league soccer.
I found different data for Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr football club. The average attendance was around 20,600 for first 5 matches of the 2023-2024 season. The club’s stadium has a capacity of 25,000 seats.

I said the average attendance with one of the biggest soccer stars in the world is in the mid 20 thousands. The lowest club in their first division brings in a thousand a game. This is in a country of 34 million people. The sports market is horrible there. I don't know what you think it is. But its terrible. Major league soccer in the states is drawing more than twice that average. And this is with 4 other major sports, and college sports drawing millions and millions a year. Put a tournament there. Enjoy the headaches.

Ditching an HC M1000 would be better for the M1000 surface distribution, but Madrid is the tournament I never really cared about. It never had the appeal of MC and Rome imo.

The average attendance of 'the mid 20 thousands' means that the stadiums with a capasitity of 25,000 seats have been full. :)

The USA's population is 10 time larger than Saudi Arabia's. It means that the lowest and highest average attendance in the USA should also be 10 times bigger.

No it doesn't dude. MLS plays with four other major sports going on. And college football and basketball. You really dont have a clue. They have 60,000 seat stadiums in Saudi. And those are bringing in 20,000 fans. Good lord dude. DO some research before you spout off crap. 38,000 seat stadiums with 3,000 fans. Man I wish some of you actually did the slightest amount of research.

Saudi Arabia should buy the Australian Open instead, would love to see that doofus Craig Tiley get blamed for it, even if he has no say....

I have talked about numbers. The file you posted shows that Al Nassr's (Cristiano Ronaldo's club) home stadium has a capacity of 25,000 seats.

Sigh. The attendance is awful. You can spin crap all day long. I don’t know why anyone thinks this is a good idea. Except the people making the money. I for one don’t want to watch matches with no fans. Maybe you do.

It's pointless to mention that Saudi has 60,000 seat stadiums, if a team hasn't played there. I searched for venues where Al Nassr (Cristiano Ronaldo's club) played their first 5 matches:
1) VENUE: Prince Mohamed bin Fahd Stadium (Dammam), CAPACITY: 26 000 (CR7 didn’t play due to an injury)
2) VENUE: Al-Awwal Park (Riyadh), CAPACITY: 25 000 (Al Nassr’s home stadium)
3) VENUE: Prince Abdullah bin Jalawi Stadium (Al-Hasa), CAPACITY: 19 550
4) VENUE: Al-Awwal Park (Riyadh), CAPACITY: 25 000 (Al Nassr’s home stadium)
5) VENUE: King Abdullah Stadium (Buraidah), CAPACITY: 34 000.

Dude. The attendance sucks. I’ve said that and there are articles all over the net about how the attendance sucks. Go ahead yaaaaaa Saudi Arabia for whatever reason you might think it’s a great idea

Buy Madrid so you can slot a grass Masters before Wimbledon I figure.

Course this is assuming ATP would approve I think Saudis asking to downgrade and therefore shorten existing Madrid tournament to 500 and using space for Grass Masters.

Unless it's as others think to transport Miami to combined with Doha-Dubai.

But hey Florida is big on tennis so if that tournament was completely wiped at least a 500 would pop up.

I started to reply to you after you claimed that big football stars don't draw crowds in Saudi Arabia (your post #9):
https://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/ind...-to-buy-miami-or-madrid.760100/#post-17743507
I have posted numbers to prove that CR7 draws.
Why do you think this is a good idea? What reason is it a good idea to move there? For what? Are you the CEO of the ATP? I have shown you how attendance is terrible for soccer. And you throw in some nonsense about big stars. Now what other reason other than them throwing money at something do you think its a good idea to move there? For me I can think of one. Politics. You bring a tournament like this there it may make it closer to the west. However as we have seen with China and Russia that means nothing. I get what they are trying to do. I dont see it working. But ok. All these hopes and dreams sound nice. But when you have a repressive dictatorship they use it for themselves. Now there are no more tournaments or any other international events in Russia. Boy that all worked out in the long run huh? Really made Putin think twice before invading Ukraine. Cause in the end when you put these tournaments in these types of countries it all comes crashing down. Enjoy it when and if you can.

You would have to move the Miami date. Because the players are not going to want to hop on a plane from IW over to Saudi. Or like you said buy the Madrid slot. Which still sucks for the players but less so. You could add it as an extra masters before Wimbledon. But its another long plane trip in totally different conditions than Northern Europe. To me its ridiculous but hey wouldn't be the first time they did something like this.

Once when the Americans were gate keepers to the throne. Now the Chinese and the Saudis have ambitions, any guesses as to when they are capable of producing a top 10 player?

I haven't written anything about tennis.
I have only written about attendance at matches of Al Nassr, Saudi Arabia's football club, for which CR7, a big football star, plays. It's because you wrote: "Have you seen what the crowds they are getting at these soccer matches with all these big stars? They are horrible." It's weird that you blame me for "throw[ing] in some nonsense about big stars."

If there is an M1000 in China, why not in Saudi Arabia?

Nearby, there are two traditional tournaments, such as Doha and Dubai.

Miami's M1000 structure is a joke, and it already was in Crandon Park. The US still has Indian Wells and Cincinnati. So I don't see anything bad, taking Miami out of the circuit.

As for the grass M1000, I would like it to be in Hamburg, where there is a decent structure, and a central court with a retractable roof.

So, I think Miami and Madrid should leave the scene.
