He might win but he wont thrash thiem. No chance. Not unless thiem chokes and if he did he will never win a Major.

I agree its the hardest challenge on HC to beat Djokovic. But its not the same as playing Nadal at Roland Garros and thiem has done that twice now in the final so that experience will make him a lot tougher i should think.
Lets see what happens. And while it is not the same as playing Nadal at Roland Garros, understand that Thiem is a better clay court player than a HC one. Thiem started to look really flat towards in the end of the fourth set against Zverev, had he slipped in that tie-break I don't think he would have made it. He has put out a lot of mental and emotional energy the past two rounds, and now he has the AO GOAT. I like Thiem also, but no chance he wins it if Djokovic plays his best.

He is in a Major final. I doubt he will be flat. Agree he has expended alot of energy but dont forget Djokovic v Federer is always mentally sapping due to their history.

Djokovic will have to be at his best to win but i still think Thiem will get at least one set.

I definitely think this final will be Djokovics toughest after AO 2012.

He was flat by the time the third set took place at last year's RG final. Please don't tell me that Nadal raised his level so much that Thiem could only win 2 games in two sets...

Sure, but Djokovic will have had more time to recover from it.

I don't think Djokovic needs to be at his best to win, he can certainly scrap out a win even below his top gear. The guy has 16 slams for a reason, however I do agree that Thiem can make it a contest.

Nadal was superb last year in the final at FO. That match was epic quality and what changed was Nadal changed tactics and came to the net more and was much more pro active which confused Thiem.

And you kind of make my point for me. Thiem will have learnt from that final.

My point is this is unlikely to be a cake walk for Djokovic. I do not mind who wins as i like both players. I do think its the dream final at this event.

Have to disagree here, Thiem doesn't go from having two great sets to all of a sudden getting breadsticked twice. That is a lack of energy showing.

What has he learnt? Not to be flat? We'll see if he is or not, but if he is drained like he was heading into RG final last year, then Djokovic the fresher guy will move him around and wear him out.

Well, a good match will be fine.

Let the better player win. I want both of them to play at their peak level. This way the beatlesfans and octos will finally understand that the fact that Nole isn't leading the slam race in 2020 is an anomaly.
The guy has literally everything. He's one of the most complete players to hold a tennis racket in their hand, at his peak, he is in my opinion the most accurate and strategically unforgiving player of all time.
Whether you think he's entertaining to watch or not , or a genuinely likeable person or not doesn't matter.

People 20 years from now will look back at what Nole has achieved and feel bad for not realizing how brilliantly original he was and how beautiful his style was, in its own way.

I hope that that is just a bad effort at joking, because you are contradicting yourself in your OP: if we need new faces with their own legacy they are playing for that, and not to forwards whatever scenario for the old guard one envisages. Claiming both is dishonesty that you want the former.
They go hand in hand. There is a reason why big3 fans are getting larger while they are all way past their prime, because no one else has shown they are worthy to be a star.

If Thiem were to pull an upset, I think people would start believing and hop on the Thiem train, as well as new fans in general.

We have already seen this with Med, and he didn't even win.

Disagree with you right there. This is AO final, where Novak is 7-0, conditions suit his game perfectly. This is the hardest challenge on a HC, to beat Djokovic in an AO semi or final. If Djokovic plays his best, he will win. The guy is the GOAT of that court.
How are you feeling with Novaks form going into this?

Do you feel a 2019 beatdown on the cards?

Re watch the FO final. I have many times and thiem was not showing signs of tiredness. Nadal shortened the points and thiem was caught out. It was classic Nadal.

Thiem has in past 9 months beat Federer in final at IW, beat Nadal in Barcelona, played a RG final, beat Federer and Djokovic in London and lost narrowly to tsitsipas in the final, beat the worlds best player in Australia this year and a zverev serving at 80 percent, i have to tell you if you think Djokovic is going to stroll this you will be disappointed.

Thiem has put the building blocks in place. Djokovic is going to have to be at his very best to win and be better than he was v Federer and Raonic. He will need a repeat of last years final .

As far as the tiredness, I think it did show in the final two sets, as he couldn't even challenge Rafa. I think a fresh Thiem could have taken it to 5 or at least kept the last two sets close.

You could see he had nothing extra to give Rafa, and that will get you into trouble quick.

No. Rafa was insanely good those last two sets. Many games went to deuce but Nadal just went into Clay God mode.

He will be like that all clay season now he knows for certain Major 20 is so close. Nadal stated last year one aim this year is a better clay court season!!

I understand your arguments, BUT...

Who cares about Rafa and Fed fans?!

Only your 3rd argument is valid. REAL tennis fans want new champs for the right reasons.

If Thiem wins, a new era might be dawning. If he loses, 2020 will belong to Big 3 again...

You are not getting it. What if he only beats Rafa???
He won't beat Rafa. If Nadal is playing at his best in Paris, he won't get beaten. No matter what Thiem does.

Here is the most likely scenario: Thiem does NOT win a slam this year. I still stand by my prediction of Medvedev winning one.

I'll be totally fine if thiem wins this. But djok, please play your heart out this one last time. I'm not sure how many GS finals he may make.

I want big3 to win GS if they make it to the finals. They really are leaving a legacy behind. It's ok for others to wait 6-8 months more

Actually thats not necessarily true. Since 2017 Thiem has dominated Djokovic. Djokovic was at his best in their match in London and lost.

Unless Thiem freezes due to nerves this will be a 4hr slugfest.

Remember Djokovic fans always claim Nadal gets tight against Nole because of recent h2h. Well past three years its Thiem 4-1 djokovic and even that 1 win for Djokovic was two tie breaks in Madrid over a tired Thiem who the day before had had a long 3 setter with federer.

I think Thiem is the guy in the draw Djokovic would have hoped to avoided. This final a lot more open and interesting than it would have been had Nadal made it through.
Djokovic was at his best in London? Not by a long shot. He definitely was not playing well in London and still almost won that match against Thiem.

2 of those wins for Thiem came in 2017 and early 2018 when Djokovic was completely out of form. Only the wins from 2019 are really significant and all the matches were very close.

Nole was fanrastic v Thiem in London. He was woeful next match v Federer

I disagree on that as I thought he was way too passive in that match.
Well yes i agree there but he has been passive for a while. The serve is more aggressive but his groundstrokes seem shorter and have for a while.

I am not saying Thiem will win. Just doubt its like last years final.

Not since WTF he hasn't. He was great in ATP Cup and this tournament off the ground, controlling the center and hitting with more authority.

We will see what happens.

Deciding on Thiem’s Energy reserve based on one RG final is stupid

Thiem can choke but I don’t believe he is going to be short on stamina

But this slow court is for players who act like a backboard . Kills tennis

Federer is hairy everywhere!
Took this pic other day from tv, astonished how long hairs he has on his arms, can comb it!

He's a hairy guy. Only other player I can think of as more hairy is Pete Sampras. They both look like they just crawled out of a cave. Also dark hair is more visible than light hair. Bjorn Borg had good beard genes but you wouldn't think of him as a hairy guy.

Needs tons of towels after a shower I'm sure! He looks like he's wearing a sweater when nude it appears from what little we see! He can comb, brush, blow dry, & curl his chest hair! GROSS! :-D

Sampras has curly hair and I think that looks good on the chest! I like some hair! But not that long on arms :p It’s like fur:laughing:
I wonder if it makes them warmer when playing?
