Save what? Lmao, the sport is already too far gone. Doesn't really affect Rafa either way, Fed's legacy has already been shattered with Djokovic and Nadal building slam counts, and the future of the sport is already in the hands of mugs. Thiem isn't even part of the next-gen or whatever, he's 26.

Haven't really paid attention to most of Thiem's matches recently but he plays like he did against Nadal and he'll be beaten comfortably by Djokovic. He might be able to beat these guys at their worst slams (Nadal AO, Djokovic FO) but on their own stages I wouldn't trust him one bit to get the job done.

Put Fed instead of Novak in the final, and it would be oh please Maestro just win this one more Slam, Thiem will have plenty of chances in the future.

Pity it's not a Djokodal final, I would have bumped that Big 3 have won too much thread if we got it again... :p
Fed deserves another slam after travesty of Wimbledon last year.

Needs tons of towels after a shower I'm sure! He looks like he's wearing a sweater when nude it appears from what little we see! He can comb, brush, blow dry, & curl his chest hair! GROSS! :-D

Novak got lots of chest hairs too! On belly and probably on his back as well. But he shaves it often, never seen it fully grown I think!
I really like chest hairs, so for me this is a good thing.

SO now it's a competition on being hairy or having lack thereof? Fed appears to trim his at times depending on how much exposure due to being on vacation! I forgot about this one! :-D

How are you feeling with Novaks form going into this?

Do you feel a 2019 beatdown on the cards?
I feel Djokovic is playing well. I don't think it will be a beatdown because Thiem is playing better than Nadal was last year, Nadal's real form was masked by weak opponents. The same cannot be said for what Thiem has shown us. So there will be more work to do for Novak.

Re watch the FO final. I have many times and thiem was not showing signs of tiredness. Nadal shortened the points and thiem was caught out. It was classic Nadal.

Thiem has in past 9 months beat Federer in final at IW, beat Nadal in Barcelona, played a RG final, beat Federer and Djokovic in London and lost narrowly to tsitsipas in the final, beat the worlds best player in Australia this year and a zverev serving at 80 percent, i have to tell you if you think Djokovic is going to stroll this you will be disappointed.

Thiem has put the building blocks in place. Djokovic is going to have to be at his very best to win and be better than he was v Federer and Raonic. He will need a repeat of last years final .
I have seen that final twice in full. Nadal changed his tactics, yes, but no way that was enough to take a Thiem who was playing him close to just winning two games in the next two sets. So, really we have will have to disagree here. Thiem played four days in a row, he was tired, and it showed.

Didn’t Nadal easily defeat Tsitsipas last year? I think it was more of a match up issue with Novak.

Yes he did. But Tsitsipas himself was overwhelmed by the occasion and Nadal had the match up advantage also. Nadal didn't face anyone who could actually move him around, the moment he did, he understood just how much he was lacking battle testing matches.

Where did it show? The rallies were brutal. Even in the two 6-1 sets.

Thiem has the same problem v Nadal on clay all one handed Bhs have. It is impossible to get three sets off Nadal having to hit one handed Bhs at head height for over 3hrs. It is a killer.

However its history now. Past three Slam finals have been of legendary standard. Hoping tomorrow is the same.

Look we are going around in circles. You think Thiem wasn't tired in that match, and I am saying he was. It is OK that we have a difference of opinion, hence why you and I will not see eye to eye on Thiem's situation as it stands right now.

Nadal was reliant last year on his serve. He was lucky he avoided the better returners. Had he played Goffin or Diego last year in Australia he would have lost as he was not fit enough to play extended rallies. Djokovic has since said he knew before the match he would win

Interesting. Last year i was panicking before final Nadal would lose to Thiem as i was not thinking Thiem would be tired.

You seem convinced Thiem will be tired.

I said to everyone that Nadal was not match fit, it wasn't the real Nadal. His form was masked by players that made him look better than he was. His first real opponent just happened to be Djokovic in the final. As great as a win it was for Djokovic, I understand that Nadal wasn't close to his best there also.

You are Nadal fan, so natural for you to panic. I saw how the top draw was getting messed up with the weather and had to play four days in a row, while Nadal would be fresher and well rested. I kind of felt Thiem had enough gas for three sets max, but the first two set were so brutal, he was done after that.

I raise you with this  Looks like he has been using hair straightener in the front. I find this even more strange compared to when he was bleaching his hair. Took him some years to find his style!

Still even peak Nadal would have lost as that was Djokovic bringing his A game on his best court.

I hope Djokovic mindset is right. I could be wrong here, but the overreaction to Federer injury in every match report i have read has irritated me and i would think may have really annoyed Novak. Every article i have read has said Djokovic beats wounded Federer or words to that effect.

Peak Nadal would have put up a better showing IMO. He wouldn't have been hammered so badly.

You are a djokovic fan so i am surprised you not thinking Thiem will be fine. Is it not better to think like that and prepare for a super tie break in 5th set? Otherwise it gets too stressful .

Thiem can choke so it could be a straight set hammering but if that happens Thiem wont win a Major ever.

I am a Djokovic fan, but I am not going to try to downplay his losses either.

They go hand in hand. There is a reason why big3 fans are getting larger while they are all way past their prime, because no one else has shown they are worthy to be a star.

If Thiem were to pull an upset, I think people would start believing and hop on the Thiem train, as well as new fans in general.

We have already seen this with Med, and he didn't even win.
I don't think that they "go hand in hand". We are talking about how one creates his expectations: by definitely wanting something to happen, which means that everything else is a consequence from it. To me one either wants the new faces to start breaking through because he has had enough of big 3 narratives, in which case thinking about Fed fans/Rafa fans becomes an obvious no go, or dwells on old fanbases and looks at the results of the new faces from the perspective of the Big 3. I am not saying that either is good or bad, I am saying that it cannot be both. Thiem can pull an upset, and the people with the mindset how that event plays in the hands of or against their favourite will still view it that way.

We're getting larger because we're spending more time eating wings in front of the TV.

I was just trying to point out that it would be good for everyone... except for Djoker fans.

As a Fed fan, of course it benefits me, but I love tennis first, and if I was not a Fed fan or a guy who dislikes Djoker, I still would want Thiem to win.

Thiem winning is best for tennis was the point.

I cannot get behind that sort of double faced "good for tennis" attitude. Djokovic is also part of "tennis", so, on the face of it it comes off as simply hating on him hiding behind some phrases. Tennis has a problem, which is that there are no new generations of challengers to the hegemony of the big 3. If you agree with that you hope for new winners. If you hope for new winners just so that your favourite of the big 3 gets further high then you don't understand that tennis has that problem and are using whatever developments are happening. Not that it is a situation that can be reverted now (it is too late, that change should have started a long time ago, so that tennis records could still resemble something meaningful), but the more the big 3 win, the graver the situation gets.

It is simple. We are looking at the outcome of a singular event. Thiem beating Djoker would have benefitted tennis. Period.
