Scheduling and the path to Indian Wells

In the past, Medvedev and Thiem have over scheduled themselves. So, it's kind of nice to see the two of them having more mature, intelligent schedules after Australia. Tsitsipas looks scheduled for destruction yet again. Booked for 8 consecutive weeks from Rotterdam to Miami. Big 3 are all doing a 500 tune up a couple weeks ahead of the Sunshine Double. It's not clear to me whether or not Zverev or Isner will represent their nations in Davis Cup.

Expect Nadal to only play indian wells before clay. But for his friendship with ellison Nadal may have from now just played on clay given whats at stake.

Djokovic will play a pretty normal schedule from Indian wells on as he will be after weeks at no.1 record.

Medvedev and Thiem seem to have a good balance.

Djoker has been scheduled to play Dubai for the last 2 years and then withdrew long before the draw. He may not play it at all.

Nope, he will play Acapulco because he owns one of his training centers and a luxury hotel complex in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. He will definitely play Acapulco unless injured, but he'll still show up for media commitments and all that. He's already said this year he's definitely planning on playing there.

To further muddy up the waters, for those interested.

Federer is far and away the most vulnerable to loss of points as he's defending 2100 points and is entering the same 3 tournaments this season. Other big point totals being defended: Isner 1050, Thiem 1010, Monfils 950, Kyrgios 620, Shapovalov 495, Tsitsipas 470, Wawrinka 445, and Nadal 405. Despite only being scheduled for 3 tournaments, Djokovic has a pretty good opportunity to extend his lead at #1. Thiem and Medvedev will both be attempting to chase down Federer. Monfils and Isner, barring incredible repeat performances of 2019, are both looking at pretty steep declines down the rankings.

Thank you for collating all of this. We all have favourites that we follow, but none of them exist in isolation. Keeping an eye on the bigger picture is important but not much information gets posted here about players outside of the Big 3 and the flavours of the month. It would be good to see both of these tables updated through the season, if you have time of course! (y)

Yeah, it's not too terribly time consuming. I think I could do that. After Miami, I'll make one for the clay season.

If you are ranked top 30 but under 30 years old or something there are different rules than it is for the big 3 primadonnas:
There is a minimum number of events players are required to compete in: eight mandatory Masters 1000s, four Grand Slams, ATP Finals (if they qualified), four ATP 500s, one of which must be in the period after the US Open, and two more from 250s or other tiers.

Majors aren't mandatory.

Rafa has partially owned two resort hotels in the Mexican island of Cozumel, located off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula, since 2013. The resorts are adjacent to each other and have tennis courts, including a hard court. He has spent his holidays and practiced there many times.

Last year, he opened the Rafa Nadal Tennis Centre (that offers programs for kids and adults) near the city of Cancun situated on the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. The centre has only clay courts.

By far the biggest rankings storyline for me is whether Medvedev passes Thiem for the #4 ranking before the French Open. Given both of their forms, this seems unlikely, but Thiem dropping to #5 means he could face Djokovic or Nadal in the French QF.

Rublev doing the right thing for himself. Tsitsipas lost early in Rotterdam but looked overloaded.

I sincerely doubt this happens. Thiem can pick up a lot of points at MC & Rome from his poor results last year, he's only defending a Madrid SF which he could also improve. And let's not forget Roger who's defending a lot of points again at the Sunshine Double.
