BTW, why is it so hot and humid in Shenzhen? After all, summer is at an end and we are almost into autumn. You could see the toll it took on all the players this week!

The southern part of China is subtropical with an extended summer of high temps and humidity into October...sounds very similar to my home here in Florida.

I must admit I found Murray's comment on the heat and humidity a bit curious. He said that he wasn't used to it as the UK is nothing like that and he spends a lot of his time in the UK. But he's often ging on about how he loves to go to Miami for training blocks so he can get used to the heat and humidity!

To be honest, I don't think Murray has ever liked playing in humid conditions and often struggles when that is the case. He may spend a lot of time training in Miami but actually playing competitive matches in a full blown tournament in those conditions has never been easy for him. He is a pale-skinned Scotsman (have you ever noticed him looking tanned even after he has been in hot places like Miami for a while?). Watch how he struggled in the final of 2013 Miami when it was also exceptionally hot and humid!

Djokovic also dislikes playing in hot, humid conditions and he is tanned and from a much warmer country than Scotland. Imagine how much harder it must be for a pale-skinned Scotsman like Murray?

Well, it kind of does. It means he is from a colder, wetter Northern European country where the inhabitants are paler skinned and not as used to dealing with heat and humidity as are the inhabitants of countries that have that type of climate.

Being pale skinned is another matter. But skin colour can be counteracted by sun cream etc.. It's the body's ability to expel heat which is the governing factor. Most northern Europeans are bad at that, no matter which country they're from.

Agreed and I would say that some Northern Europeans are even worse than others at coping with such conditions. Murray may possibly fall into the 'even worse' category although, that said, his exceptional fitness means he can often compensate successfully more often than not.

Not sure it is back to pre-surgery levels yet. He was struggling mightily in the humid conditions in the Shenzhen final and his tennis sort of sputtered in fits and bursts as a result with great shots and great serving interspersed with poor serving and careless errors.
