The difference between Djoker and Fed IMHO is the fact that Peak Federer lost to inferior opponents far less often than Peak Djoker did. And this is the main reason that Djoker didn't quite match the extended peak of Fed's. FWIW, I think Djoker's 12-18 month peak is the best since Laver completed the CYGS. But for an extended peak, Fed pulls ahead due to that one reason. Djoker should have beaten guys like Nishikori, Murray, and Stan. Peak Fed almost certainly would have. I'll show more on this later on.
As far as HTH between peak Fed and peak Djoker goes, I think it's probably dead-even. HTH is not Fed's forte.
Here's how I think peak Fed matches up with Peak Djoker
slow hard courts: 7-3 Djoker
medium hard courts: 5-5
fast hard courts: 7-3 Federer
slow grass: 6-4 Federer
clay: 6-4 Djoker
total: dead-even
Let's keep in mind that Federer holds a few records that show that he wasn't going to lose to good- but-lesser players during his peak. These streaks to me are what put Fed ahead right now as the GOAT.
1. Fed won 26 consecutive matches vs the top 10. This completely destroys the next best streak of 17 by 53%. Federer and Djoker are tied with 17 for the next best streak.
2. Fed's outrageous 65 match winning streak on grass. The next best is 41 by Borg, followed by 23. This is absolutely insane. It took a Peak Nadal to end this streak in a tight five set match. Bottom line: Fed went 72-1 from 2003-2009 on grass. 55 of those matches were straight-set blowouts. One loss in 7 years. Wow! To be fair, Borg's 41 straight was on the faster grass. As a mentioned in another post, faster surfaces are more prone to upsets. But Fed's streak of 65 straight is still insane. Nobody has come close to this, despite the fact that Fed has been quite beatable on grass since he became a dinosaur.
3. Fed had an outrageous 56 match winning streak on hard courts. This completely destroys the next longest streak by 56%, which was 36 straight. Fed is the one with 36 straight. This is insane too.
4. Federer won 24 consecutive finals matches. This is arguably the biggest testament that Peak Fed wasn't going to lose to lesser players. The next best streak is 19 by Rod Laver. This shows that Fed beat players that were in-form; good enough to reach the final.
Djoker has been a legend. There is no doubt. And I don't think that peak Fed owns peak Djoker HTH. But Fed has done one thing better than anybody for an extended period of time. He's beaten the players that he is supposed to beat. He beats Djoker in this fashion and he destroys Nadal at this. The one chink in Fed's armor is that he somewhat chokes against an ATG player. I've seen this too much and it kills me when it happens. This factor might allow Nadal and Djoker to eventually overtake him in the slam count. We shall see.
Some day, Fed's slam record will fall. I am prepared for that. If it isn't Nadal or Djoker, then it will be somebody else. I can see a player that comes along some day that is a bomb-server like Sampras, yet has Djoker's baseline game. And if/when that happens, then look for his player to win 25-30 slam titles, provided that he stays healthy.
