SEC Tennis

I was at the match. Kallberg had 3 match points. If he gets it then we have a match, because apparently Lindmark's opponent was overruled on match point. That made it 5-5, but then supposedly that was his third overrule. If that's the case, Lindmark would have been serving up 6-5 for the win. Scholtz and Lakat had just started the third set. Who knows on that one, but at least Scholtz would have had a chance. Doubles was really close. Only match that the Rebels weren't in at all was the one on six. Hansson actually had a 2-0 lead in the second, but he couldn't hold it. Credit State though for hanging in there at four and splitting at two as well. Believe if Ole Miss gets those in straight sets, then it might have been different. To speak on the bottom lineup players, I remember when Ole Miss used to dominate at those spots. They had good players, but not since 2009 have they had a strong five and six. That makes a big difference. Lot of teams are generally good at 1-3.
 
Funny that gowda wins one...and the top3 not.
Ole miss was top of sec when berg and Norberg played 5&6. They were nearly unbeatable on that Spots in one season and doubles as well.
Indoor outdoor seems to be a big difference on this Team this season. As long the season goes on ole miss will drop many more matches. Msu only 34 so that's not a good loss also it was closer as the Score Shows
 
Ole Miss can not afford another letdown if they want to host a regional. They will need to win out with the exception of UGA and then hope they can at least make SF's of SEC Tournament.

Still surprised at #3 match result as Hansson had been solid all year for the most part
 
I am not sure how they'll do this weekend. LSU is not bad, and we know A&M is good. They should win both matches next week at home and then beat South Carolina.

after yesterday i ve no idea if Ole Miss is even the 3rd best team or just middle of the pack together with Vandy, Lsu, Florida, MSU, comical they ve 2 concinving home wins over Vanderbilt and Florida, but road losses at Msu and at Alabama :shock:

at LSu will be close, maybe they win this, but they ll never win at A&M :oops:
even LSU is a good team and a close match. Ole Miss will be fav at 1 to 3, but LSU is certainly fav on 5&6, 3& 4 could be close games, doubles is a weakness on Ole Miss. so this easily can be a 4-3 match with winner takes it all....:twisted:

Did you notice anything as to why Babic did not play singles? Did he look injured in the doubles match?
 
No he didn't look injured, he played well in the doubles, better than Nik actually. I think it must have been a match-up thing.

Kallberg on 4 seemed to be right, he had matchpoints
they had babic on 4 and kallberg on 5 in sec lineups for the week, so they had to put Babic out to put Kallberg in at 4
Afterwards i would ve liked to see Babic on 4 and Kallberg on 5 instead of Jorge. Maybe Kallberg would ve won at 5, then it could be 3-3 with Scholtz still playing :oops::mad:

Ole Miss loses the doubles point as allways at lsu. Will be Hard to win four singles.
 
Harrison Adams out of singles and doubles and Jeremy Efferding out of singles for the Aggies against Arkansas. Aggies take the doubles point with Szabo/Efferding winning 6-0 at 1.

Saw Daigle was up 5-3 in the third, but didn't know he had 6 MPs. Makes the loss even tougher for Daigle and LSU. That said, Daigle's put together a pretty impressive first year after basically sitting the pine at UVa. And odds are that he would have sat just as much this year. Amazing that a "top 5 ish" SEC player couldn't even crack the top 6 at UVa.
 
I wonder if Jeremy Efferding will make the NCAA singles tournament? He is ranked #59, and led #15 Nik Scholtz 6-3, 5-3, but the SEC plays wussy rules so he does not get to finish. He has to move up from #59 to get in automatically.

LSU and Arkansas actually played it out in rebellion against the rest of their conference brethren.

after the loss to the UTSA he prob wont make it. He needs a couple of good wins (top30 wins) if he wants to make it now.

what a joke--.-.sweeping Ole Miss and then nearly losing to UTSA??? (Also i must say i ve never heard of Frankie Colunga, and Efferding got out of steam after tough match vs Scholtz? Bad twists of fate...not coming to end the game when leading vs Scholtz and then losing to Stillman. (Winner of the day then is Stillman or maybe Scholtz in avoiding a loss)
 
It's my understanding that Scholtz was pretty sick this weekend, so not sure how he was able to pull it out at LSU. Apparently he had nothing left in the tank for Sunday. It seems Ole Miss still can't get consistent production from 4-6. And doubles was not good again. I see them being able to win three of their final four matches before the SEC Tournament, with two of them being at home. Not sure if that's enough to get in the top four for a bye.

And yet Harrison Adams is still at 51 despite not winning a dual match this spring. Efferding has been a million times the better player this season. The ITA should make fall results less important as the season goes on. What these guys did as individuals 6 months ago means nothing now.

Thats a reason.
Ole miss should Beat vols and uk at home then sc on the road and will lose at uga.
Vols and sc are trap game s. Top4 sec is possible as they own head-2-head over vandy lsu Florida. Trap game s cause Lack of production on #4 and #5 and weak doubles. Scholtz cannot win all the time.

I mostly agree. The ranking should weight the most recent results much more heavily than the results from the beginning of the year. In the parlance of statistics, this is called Bayesian updating.

Efferding again robbed of a victory. This time just 2 points from winning. Not as big of a deal since his opponent was unranked but still it's gotta be frustrating. If I was a top prospect looking at schools I would not look at any SEC school because I wouldn't want only 50% or so of my matches finishing all season.
 
Kentucky racking up those ranked wins now - whipped #58 Arkansas today on the road after blowing out #71 Alabama last weekend. They gave Georgia a tough match a few weeks back too. Ole Miss better be ready for them on Saturday.
 
Babic out of singles again for third straight match, if he does not play Saturday, I see UK picking up a win. Looks like will be tight against TN tonight, but Jorge off to hot start at #6.
