looks like the UGA train flattened you before UF even had the chance
Looks like A&M railroaded before we could....to soon?
very classy for TN Coach giving thumbs up as well. Must have been jaw dropping in personI was there! It was an amazing shot! I had to give it a standing ovation even though it was hiss by Miss State.
Looks like FL, GA, and Texas A&M are the teams to beat this year with preseason rankings of #9, #10, and #13 respectively and all 3 with 2 guys in ITA top 20 for singles. However, GA has the edge with the dubs point with two top 20 preseason teams. This weekend GA is set to play at MLK International at GA Tech-usually there are 2 other teams-in past years, the teams have been Illinois, Columbia, South Carolina, etc. I assume the matches will be indoors with no fans but they could be livestreamed. The AD must have strict rules for GA as they declined to play in ITA Kickoff. For now all their Jan/Feb matches are at home with first away in early March at Florida. It looks like they are playing a mix of ACC, SEC, and in-state midmajors. Unfortunately no chance this year for GA to beat OSU at home again since not on schedule
I did see that Texas A&M, FL, GA, and SC all played at SC one weekend in Oct-SEC was one of few conferences that had in-conference invites in the fall. Teams played 8 lines of singles and 4 lines of dubs. If you just look at the top 6 lines of singles and 3 dubs pairs, Texas A&M beat GA 4-3 with GA winning dubs. Due to rain, Texas A&M and FL match didnt finish. Singles played first. Texas A&M won 2 1st sets, FL 3 1st sets plus one 2 set win. It will be interesting to see how FL does without Crawford; the Texas A&M team may have more experience.I would not put too much stock in the preseason rankings. For example, Baylor is at #15 and you'll be hard pressed to find a top 25 coach who has them outside the top 10. For many coaches, TAMU should be the top dog in that conference. Their top of the lineup is as good as any in the country with Aguilar/Habib/Valcherot and experience/options down low. It'll be interesting to see what they do with their doubles lineup as they always seem to tinker with that
Pretty impressive play by SC. I would not have predicted UGA to loose at 1-3. And whats up with former Vandy #1/2 Billy Rowe loosing?South Carolina soundly beat UGA at MLK invite at GA Tech today. UGA's top 4 guys-Bryde, Henning, Zink and Croyder all lost in singles, and Croyder/Henning lost in dubs. In this exhibition format, 4 dubs and 8 singles were played. If only the top 3 dubs and top 6 singles were played, UGA would have lost 1-6. Baptiste Anselmo who didnt play much for UGA last year (think he was injured) beat USC's Philip Jordan and UGA Grevelius beat USC's Thomas Brown. https://georgiadogs.com/news/2021/1...gs-pick-up-four-wins-at-mlk-invitational.aspx UGA dub pairs that won were Bryde/Zink and Anselmo/Johnston (line 4 dubs for exhibition). Guess it's a good thing UGA is not playing the ITA Kickoff as this event shows they arent quite ready to play top 20 teams. Most matches were close, so with more practice, UGA can live up to its CR predicted top 10 ranking. GA will play GA Tech tomorrow.
do you know how to spell lose?Pretty impressive play by SC. I would not have predicted UGA to loose at 1-3. And whats up with former Vandy #1/2 Billy Rowe loosing?
Looks like I don't. Guess I'm a looser!do you know how to spell lose?
Watched Andres practice at our local courts while waiting for my sons lessons to start a few weeks back. This kid is the real deal. I could definitely see him hanging with many of the players at the Atlanta Open we went to a couple of years ago. I expect to see him doing well in the future.. #9 Trent Bryde lost to #59 GT's Andres Martin 2-6, 3-6.
I've watch him play a couple times-talked with his dad at one home match. If I remember right, his dad played on the Costa Rica national basketball team. His dad was a fun guy to talk to. Andres definitely has talent-will be interesting to see which Georgia player finishes highest in the May 2021 ITA singles rankings... Garrett Johns (Duke), Blake Croyder (UGA), and Tyler Stice (Auburn) are other talented local Atlantans playing college. What year is your son? Georgia male junior players need to keep up with South Carolina-GA won the Southern Junior Cup for around 25 years straight and then lost in 2018 to South Carolina, before squeaking by SC in 2019 for the win. I assume the event wasnt played in 2020.Watched Andres practice at our local courts while waiting for my sons lessons to start a few weeks back. This kid is the real deal. Yep, that’s the one - BBT 250 at Atlantic station. Couldn’t remember the name of it off hand.I've watch him play a couple times-talked with his dad at one home match. When you say Atlanta Open, do you mean the former BBT 250/now Truist 250? If it comes back this July, the tourney gives one WC into the main draw to a Georgia college player from GA Tech or UGA-past players have included Chris Eubanks, Trent Bryde, and Colton Gromley who played a competitive match Ugo Humbert (tiebreak 1st set) in 2019. The tourney also holds tourneys for a WC into the 250 Qualis which is often won by a GA college player.
Unbelievable...Memphis takes down #17 Ole Miss again in Oxford. Ole Miss Men’s Tennis Falls 4-3 to Memphis - Ole Miss Athletics (olemisssports.com)
Good start by my Gators last night beating up on Bama. I think we have a good shot at winning the SEC. TAMU and Tennessee look strong too with a good win by Tennessee over Georgia yesterday.
I do wonder what has happened to our Gator women of late. I'm not as in tuned as the guys side but we used to be a top 5 team every year and looks like we have fallen on tough times. Wonder if that is because of the loss of our our Assistant?
No love for Kentucky! My regular season SEC prediction: (all be it with a homer pick at 1)
1. Gators
2. TAMU
3. Tenn
4. SC
5. Miss St
6. UGa
7. Kentucky
8. Miss
9. Alabama
10. LSU
11. Auburn
12. Arkansas
13. Vandy
Big SEC matchup this weekend UT vs UF. Any predictions?
Rough outing for UT. We always struggle at the swamp. Hope we bounce back.Probably 4-3 someone, should be a good one
UF has been pretty darn tough the last two times out - 5-2 vs A&M, 7-0 vs UGA last night - if Crawford had come back, they'd be right there with the top 2-3 national title contenders
But instead he's wandering around Tunisia and India, ranked 600+ in the world
While he certainly earned the right to control his own destiny and choose to go pro a year early, I think he made the wrong decision
I think your hardest matches are behind you. I think you wrapped up the SEC regular season when you beat the Vols. I do think the SEC tourney will be when your tested again.Gators are rolling, we had a great win at A&M and played very well against the Vols. Still some tough ones ahead but I think we are in good shape for the SEC regular season.
You may notice on my list that was made in jest your gators were not disparaged. Memphis is only around 80 miles from the nearest SEC school.Memphis welcome to come to Gville anytime, we'll even spot you the doubles point for making the trip.........on a serious not big match with Kentucky this weekend, another step to the regular season title, lets go Gators.
I think the Tenn loss is more surprising than the 2 wins by Alabama. I guess Kentucky over South Carolina was also technically an upset but Kentucky has 4 ranked players so that was a match expected to be close. But Tenn...Vols had beaten eight top 20 teams including two in the top 5, and its previous losses had only been to number 1 and 2 FL and UNC. How did they lose to #39? The only difference in their lineup was Giles Hussey was missing, and they have had different guys at 6. Hard to believe after winning dubs and the top two spots, that they couldnt find one other win between lines 3-6. Arkansas has lost a lot of SEC matches 0-7 or 1-6 but then pulled off upsets vs Texas A&M and Tenn. Wonder which Arkansas team will show up at SEC tourney? Do all SEC teams get to play conference tourney or are there play-in games? SEC conference championships going to be feisty... The real question is how many SEC teams will be in top 16? Think this is the year for SECs at NCAAs. Of course there could be the dark horse UCF playing home court at NCAAs this year. COVID, mostly conference-only scheduling, and no fall play really hurt Big 10 and PAC 12 for 2021. I hope UGA gets to host the 1st weekend. Some excellent upsets this weekend. Next rankings will be very interesting.
Big time disappointing loss by Tenn. To win the dubs and then loose at 3-6 ouch! Never predicted that one. My understanding is all SEC teams play in the SEC tourney. Top teams get a bye. Good be interesting if anyone can put some pressure on UF.I think the Tenn loss is more surprising than the 2 wins by Alabama.
