LL Arthur Rincerknech #125 upsets Jannik Sinner #18 in Leon, 6-7, 6-2, 7-5! Will it be inspiration for Texas A&M to pull off the massive upset over Florida?
Is for me, I'm changing my pick to A&M now!

like most team matches at this stage of the game, a lot hangs on the dubs point

i feel pretty good if i'm UF and get that point cushion, given their depth

and it's going to be a long, tough battle if A&M jumps to the lead - one where the top guys are going to have to step up and join the 4-6 guys in posting some singles points

Baylor looks really good, I don't see them losing to Tennessee even though Tenn will put up a good fight, and they'll likely be in the earlier semi, so they'll be facing a team that had 6+ hours less recovery in the finals

hard not to see them as the most likely winner right now

Yikes, two years ago Andrade-vale had three match points to essentially take the dubs point vs Texas (Crawford-Perez were on match point on their own court next door), they couldn’t close, and we know the rest of the story

here’s hoping the gators can write a different ending tonight, after letting three match points slip in dubs again :(

4-6 need to step up big time, need 2-3 of those, period

I’ll be honest I have a bad feeling after that gut punch, it’s never easy to beat a great team three times in a year, and especially not when you breathe life into them in dubs

What a mess - this is what happens when you only use one set of courts and have teams in similar sections of a draw playing at wildly different times - and have teams starting matches at 9-10 pm like the last couple nights

will be lucky if the winner is decided by 1 am

it's what happens when TV dictates things

UF loses 2/3 first set singles tiebreaks, Riffice the only exception, to add to the doubles tiebreak fiasco

if they lose this match, it’ll be because they shrank in breakers

Thank you Shelton, the same finish from bicknell over the next few games would be huge, get some scoreboard pressure on A&M

Woot, bicknell closes, 2-1 gators

I think if either Riffice or Andrade can win their second set and make it 3-1, this will be looking awfully good for UF w Vale and Goodger showing good fight early in their second sets

Andrade gets to 4-4 with a big deuce point and Riffice shows some of his famous slice defense to earn a chance to serve for it

good momentum right now, let’s use it!

Riffice is an animal on these courts

He makes it 3-1

Andrade at 6-3,4-5 serving
Both Vale and Goodger at 3-1 in the second as they try to force a third

vamos!

Welp, looks likely we’ll have three third sets, with UF needing one of them

Vale has played one hell of a second set

Goodger looks like he’s not giving up his unbeaten streak easily

and Andrade-Aguilar just a fierce battle of base liners who can belt it

Vale - Vacherot: 1-2 on serve, tossup

Andrade - Aguilar: 0-3, one guy keeps getting stronger, and he’s not a gator unfortunately

Goodger - Marson: 0-0, feels like Goodger regaining his usual form, have to like his chances

if the commentator mentions one more time that Florida needs just one of the remaining matches I'm hitting a mute button......

great job with taking 50% of the screen with scorecard being shown at all times  . Why not make it a full screen and show the match in a thumbnail size window.....

Breaks on 1 (up a break) and 3 (back on serve)

vamos!

have I mentioned vale is my goddamn hero with how much he’s improved over the last couple years

Vale is the baddest man in america

Crawford who?

amazing stuff, that could have ended 6-1, very realistically

bring on Texas, time to get that monkey off the back

Man, there is some bad blood between Tennessee and UF - if that ends up being the final, going to be wild - dating back to gators chomp from a Tenn bench-sitter towards UF crowd two years ago, then revenge knocking them out of NCAAs a couple weeks later, then a testy / interesting ending in the Bicknell singles match in this year’s SEC tournie final

Baylor up a break in 3rd set in both remaining matches and they only need to win one. Looks like it is going to be the Bears in the championship if they hold serve.

Baylor wins 4-2.
Ill be honest I think UF is the only team playing tonight that can beat this peak version of Baylor, and they can probably only do so if they don’t deplete everything they have tonight and end after midnight

which, is going to be a tall task, against a Texas squad that fights for everything

and UF may even need the dubs point more than Baylor

Baylor remains the NCAA favorite

Is Brian Shelton the first coach to win D1 men's AND women's championships? For some reason I didn't think he was, but all the people I thought might have done it - like Dick Gould - only won a championship with one sex/gender.

yes, definitely in college tennis, many folks in tennis social media have already commented on that
Possibly the first in all of collegiate sports?though that could be wrong...

Great publicity today for Florida men's tennis as a large part of Ben Shelton's qualifying win over #181 Michael Mmoh was shown on ESPN News.
Ben Shelton has improved his game tremendously since April and May.

The only drawback to ESPN News coverage was having to listen to Brad Gilbert. Gilbert knows absolutely nothing about college tennis and made some horrible, ignorant comments.

yeah he’s had a hell of a year

dominate freshman season and clinch NCAAs, win singles and dubs in Illinois right before kzoo, win dubs and finals of singles at kzoo, take down mmoh to open us open qualies

it’s entirely possible UF could have 3 of the top 10 guys in college tennis next year, should folks decide to stay

I remember his father was a decent pro. I read that he was playing 5 or 6 for Florida. what specifically has he improve? I notice that he won a 25K a couple of weeks ago.

He's dad was a good pro, had a monster serve.

Good question, I'd like to hear the Ben Shelton improvement story. My guess is he's continuing to grow physically, mature mentally and lots of solid practice and coaching.

@mikej any insight to BS's rapid improvement ?

I would say his mental game and confidence is what has propelled him this summer.

take a kid with enormous weapons (serve, fearhand, transition game) and add the type of consistency and fitness and discipline that comes with training with a top NCAA program every day = boom

and you’d expect that 1-yr improvement to be more dramatic for an 18 year old true freshman who’s still filling out than for some 24 year old former fake Israeli military guy like some of these teams have on their roster

I also see on the Florida roster that the outstanding recruit from Jordan....decided to come to Florida and is on the 21-22 roster. Duarte Vale, Sam Riffice and Ben Shelton will probably alternate between the top 3 spots next year. Blaise Bicknell (undefeated at 4 this past year), knocked off Texas's very good #2 (Micah Braswell) in a futures tourney this summer. Abdullah S. has a UTR of around 13.40 when he signed for Florida and he will only get better. Andy Andrade was a very strong #3 last year....(wins over Sven Lah of Baylor and Philip Henning of Georgia)...and a win over one of Texas A&M's big two. Andrade is a very, very good player....but he may be playing 5 or 6 this year. If everyone returns and stays healthy, the Gators are going to be awfully good.
