Everyone has their top-10 or GOAT list.

But what about a second-20 list? Here's mine:
11. Vines
12. Connors
13. Kramer
14. Cochet
15. Hoad
16. Lacoste
17. Emerson
18. Agassi
19. McEnroe
20. Newcombe

21. Edberg
22. Becker
23. Wilander
24. Nadal
25. Trabert
26. Jack Crawford
27. Sedgman
28. Riggs
29. von Cramm
30. Vilas
31. Budge Patty

I keep thinking who have I left out? Renshaw? Doherty? Borotra? Sears? Larned? Johnston? Wilding? Courier?

TAD,
Yep, Fed's already in the top-10.

I like Fed, particularly his one-handed backhand: classy stroke.

Nice list. I would consider Ashe, Segura and Nastase. Agassi and Mac are quite low. I have Mac top ten, maybe i am a bit sentimental about his artful style.

^^^ I considered Ashe and Nastase, and P. Segura.

Maybe I tend to underestimate Nastase too much for his personality.

Also, maybe, I tend to place too much emphasis on achievements and results, and less on ability and style. But, to offer a mild defense, I consider results to be the evidence of ability. If the results are not there, then maybe the ability was only a figment of our imagination.

I do very much appreciate Mac's game, and his rivalry of contrasts with Borg.

I believe that Ashe was a great gentleman, a great statesman for the game of tennis, but his results don't quite add up to justify inclusion.

I should learn more about Segura and his abilities. (I first heard about him as Connors's coach.)

Hoodjem, can you post your top 10 list here? I'm afraid I might have missed it, thanks.

Sorry, you didn't miss it. I was just avoiding the obvious (and maybe being a little provocative) in trying to be interesting.

Along the lines of instead of debating who is the number 1 player, let's debate who is the number 2 player. Trying too hard to be different.

I'm curious- was Ken Rosewall that good a player to be included in your list? I must confess I don't really know much about him, other than the fact that he had a devastatingly effective backhand.

I rate Rosewall very high because of his longevity at the highest levels of the game of tennis.

As examples, Rosewall won the Australian Championships in 1953 and 1955, then in 1971 and 1972. He won the French Championships in 1953, and again in 1968. He won the US Championships in 1956 and in 1970.
"Muscles" was in the Wimbledon finals in 1954, and then 20 years later in 1974. (He was banned as a pro from 1957 to 1968.)

Unbelievable! Imagine Federer winning his first Wimbledon in 2003, and then his last in 2022. That would certainly move him way up on my GOAT list.

Yes, I know all the arguments about how much more physical the game is today, and how supposedly "easy" tennis was back then. But I do believe that these spans are indicative of a great tennis player--with the results (tournament victories) to back them up.
