In an effort to attain the ultimate weapon against sweaty hands, I'm trying gauze tape tomorrow. It will be my first time using gauze so could you guys give me some tips on gauze usage such as what to expect, etc. ?

I have used Gauze tape for a number of years. I play in Central / South Florida where the humidity is in the 90's and temperatures are 90 and above usually in the heat of the day. The way I use it is to wrap a couple of layers up the handle, then one layer down the handle. Before play, I always put it under a water fountain to make sure it is wet and sticks better. Sometimes a little oil leaks from the gauze, but after ½ hour or so it is very tactile.

I was using Tourna grips, about 3 per match (2 to 3 hours) with wrist bands and it was getting expensive, now I just use gauze over leather (no wrist bands), or over the new Wilson pro hybrid grip which is working out better than leather for me.

It is one of those things you either like it or not, takes a couple of matches to decide.

Thanks for the reply, Barry.

How long does gauze usually last for you ?

i thought this stuff was utter garbage. too rough on the hands and doesn't help with a better grip. and i had to cut it off the handle cause it wouldn't unwrap for me for some reason.

my friend wanted to try it over the summer, unfortunately i already threw my old roll away. i tried to warn him but he insisted on trying so there's $3 he won't ever see again. he got blisters from it and since he had sweaty hands he was hoping that it would provide better grip. nope. his hand still slips.

I highly recommend original tourna grip. I have sweaty hands and have been using the grip since college. One overgrip usually lasts me about two or three matches, but overall, I think it works great. Will be interested to see how the gauze works for you though.

For me I get about a week out of it (4 matches). Usually 3 wrapping per roll. Some people do get blisters and Calluses, I don't because I hit through the ball, and for me it works very well. Beats having the racket bounce down the court when serving.

Tournagrip is great stuff, but unless I take botox shots, I go through 3 a match. In Miami I saw Rafter use about 10 tournagrips in one match. Sampras was just as bad.

I tried it the tourna gauze tape and it actually got me over the edge in a tight match where my usual tacky grips didn't feel right. I have it over a leather grip on an old Head extreme pro microgel racquet where regular grips builds up the grip size too much. I sweat a bit so the way I used it was together with Prince grip plus grip enhancer. Without it I feel it's slipping too much but the grip enhancer together with the rough texture of the gauze seems to work well for me.

a rosin bag is your friend. Costs about $5. works well. is NOT sticky (which is what I expected) Worth a try. (I tried gauze tape years ago and it tore up my hand.)
