Self rate USTA question

OK- I have more experience with ALTA but I am trying to help a friend navitage USTA for the first time. They are starting a brand new 4.0 team and many of the guys are self rated players. One of the guys somehow jacked up his self rating questionairre and he is currently showing up as a 2.0 player. Can he just play and let his rating naturally rise up to its natural level or is it important to get his self rating set to a more accurate level before the season starts? (which is Sunday so if we need a change it needs to happen soon) He is nowhere near a 4.0 ringer but I want to make sure that this odd rating isn't going to cause issues.

Also- we have a guy with a T rating (Tournament exclusive). Should we pretty much be treating him as a self rated player or would this be more similar to a computer rated player?

I don't think it matters what your self-rating is as long as it is below the league level (i.e. not 4.5...). At least, it doesn't matter in my section. I don't know if different sections have different rules.

T-rated players are subject to DQ like self-rated.

Would we have an issue if someone decided to file a grievance against the player for clearly not being a 2.0?

If he won a match in doubles with a 4.0 player (say against 2 other 4.0 players) would it risk giving his partner a strike because it would look to the computer like he carried the guy?

Or does the self rating no matter and no matter what you self rate and the computer will only go off of actual results?

Thanks for your help.

If he played in a 2.0 league, they would have a grievance. You can't have a grievance against a guy who is a 4.0 level playing in a 4.0 league regardless of his rating.

It won't make a difference in the strikes. After he plays a single match, he'll have a dynamic rating (i.e. that is not 2.0...).

This must be a common glitch because our district had a player self rate last year and have it show up as a 2.0. He played that way the entire season with no problems.
