Self rated players and dynamic ratings

If you play against a self rated player will it effect your dynamic rating? I heard that it could if the self rated player has enough matches under their belt. Is this a fact? Or just an opinion?

Everything you read about The Algorithm, unless published by USTA itself, is an opinion.

if he’s already played at least a certain number of matches (perhaps 3), then it will, then and there. If not, but he ultimately plays at least the threshold number of matches, then it will affect your year-end dynamic. One opinion.

My question is, if the self rate plays 3 matches, do they use their year end rating to re-calculate yours, or do they use their rating at the point they played you, which may be different than their year end.

Your dynamic rating changes based on your opponent's pre-match dynamic rating (if they had one) at the time you played them. At year end, everyone's year-end rating is calculated simultaneously, based on all the match results throughout the year.

If your early-season opponents had very little match data before you played them, but lots of data after, then this is one way that your year-end rating can be pretty different than your final dynamic rating.

I believe neither player would get a dynamic rating, and they would not get a C-rating at year-end either. Their "S" rate status would continue until a year in which they get ~3+ matches against rated opponents.
Not sure about that, but haven't looked for that scenario yet either.

I do know of a case where a player (player A) only played three matches, and one was against an S (player B) that only played two matches and didn't get a year-end rating, but player A did even though they only had two matches against players that got year-end ratings.

I don't know where I read this, but I read that scores from retired matches count if at least one set has been completed.
Hum, I guess the trick to increasing your rating is to retire before finishing one set every match that you're getting blown out

As you say, I don't remember where I read this, but my recollection is that a match is official if six games are played.
