This is toxic advice.
Women want a strong man that makes them feel safe.
You are their rock, not their supplicating wet noodle they can walk all over.

When you've been married 35 years, you can call my advice "toxic." I will say this, women don't want guys that have ponytails.

If you can even be found when she is trying on something new you are a rank amateur.

The question is usually posed right before you are set to head out to a dinner party in my house. Hard to escape that. But I'm a master of the "No, honey. You're a willow. You're a reed."

You re both right.

If you are wrong you should totally own it admit and apologise full disclosure.

But no fake apologies when she s being a b1tch. You either ignore her or call her on that sh1t

You give people space when they’re having a hard time and they will appreciate it later on.

Never said that the "I'm sorry" line was to be used for false apologies. As men, we screw up a lot. You have to own that and admit it.

Oh and rule #1 of all marriages is don't marry a b1tch. If you are having a problem with that, seek me out because I've got pretty good b1tch radar.

Played a practice match against a 60+ guy currently rated #6 in Russia veterans tour.
He is 62, ten years older than me. Routinely within top 10 of his age group. Here is a 15 min cut of one of our sets.
Pretty much all points longer than 2 shots. He wears blue shorts and there is something written on the back of his t-shirt.
I am in green shorts, the one that moves two times slower ))

Love it. Great points and play, and loving the cloud cover and clay court. You both move well and have good court IQ. Thanks for posting.

Sooo, I'm starting to think my hand will never heal. Wrist is a lot better but the thumb is still bad - guess it's the arthritis the doc saw in the xrays

But I am playing as much as I can and steadily improving. Trying to hit lots of balls once a week (twice if my hand allows) then go out Sunday morning with the crew and play a lot of sets. Moving and volleying well on singles and dubs court. Still have to limit my serving to once a week though and it's hard to improve it when you can't practice it.

@ChaelAZ my buddy in Phoenix says he's hitting in the heat of the day to get a fitness edge, says court temp is 130! His last challenge opponent told him he was nuts cause he wanted to schedule at 2pm

Serve not worth losing ability to play once a week tennis.

I CAN play in the heat of the day, but in most cases there is no benefit for me. I am on court by 6:30a-7a and it is already 85-90 degrees as the sun comes up. By the time I walk off around 9a or 10a it's over 100 degrees. I played the other day at 4pm and was 107.8 in the shade. That was a tough one.

I'll go hack up some balls with your buddy if he wants, but early or later :D

Extremely frustrated right now, I pulled some muscle on the inside of my thigh about two months ago (some would say a groin muscle I guess) so I stopped playing for a week, it felt better. Played again, and re-injured it. Took more time off, then hurt it again playing doubles. Finally I decided to see my doctor, but I couldn't get in to see him so I saw a physicians assistant, he didn't have much to say except he ruled out a hernia after an awkard (for me) examination. I asked if I could get an MRI and he said the insurance won't cover it until I go through physical therapy. How is a physical therapist going to know what to do if we don't know what the problem is ? Overall I would say that appointment was NOT worth having to drop my pants for, and did you know you don't have to go to med school to be a PA ? I had no idea. Finally he agreed I should see an ortho, hopefully that will be more helpful.

Did the PA at least buy you lunch? Or at least a drink?

Just kidding.

I get it though...it’s a tough one.

Hopefully you’ll be back on the court pain free soon.

Bummer ... injuries suck. I agree ... the MRI is what we often need to know for sure what we are dealing with, but not always approved by insurance, and expensive co-pay (I think we pay $150). You don't exactly want to go PT crazy with a tear of some sort. I opted not to get one for my TE ... figured I would just hear "yep ... you got TE". The most aggravating part for me is having no clue what my safe limit is for avoiding re-injuring the hamstrings. I have basically abandoned my top gear/sprint ... which was slowing down anyway and didn't need any additional loss.

First sorry you’re injured. What are you exactly frustrated about? The PA being a trained medical professional? Not being able to get an MRI? That your not fully back playing after a week or so? That PT isn’t the right thing? What did you want done and what expectations were or we’re not met that you had preconceived needed to be done?

Well our skills may dwindle as we age, but I’ll always have my humor.

Turns out you are lucky if your speed atrophies at the same rate as your hamstrings. One thing I got out of the injuries is I got my overhead back. The body weight squats was all it required. I had noticed two years ago my automatic overhead was struggling. It was simply a little loss in leg strength. Interestingly ... the struggle was on overheads and not serves (probably the leg strength to reposition for the overhead, stationary on serves).

He just didn't want the PA touching his junk. (n)

I am just going to say it again. As our body gets old, we are loosing muscle mass. Thus doing some kind of strengthening activity is highly recommended. Though I do not recommend stretching. Any structure needs more strength than mobility. If one has more mobility (movement range) than strength then that is when something bad happens. It is way better to loose a little mobility (range) than strength.
People do not get this tip but it works: 20 minutes low intensity squat does miracles to your whole core. You can watch tv while doing it.

I'm just doing 30 body weight squats a day (one set) ... and I don't remember every day. No weights ... do them with back of legs in front of couch so my butt never goes below knee level. You would think that is nothing ... would do very little, but I have noticed the improvement (even with the recent +5lbs).

Body weight squats have changed my life and renewed my tennis game back to a level I’d assumed impossible. [emoji56]

Why doesn't these injuries work this way:

If I have a bad muscle/tendon injury ... I go straight to MRI without doc or insurance permission. Who is going to pay $150 copay for fun ... fake it. Why in the hell should I have to go to the primary, an ortho, PT until I know what I am dealing with. I should be able to get a MRI on my own, and the results without the preliminary office visit. Sometimes there is a wait to get in to see the doc ... injuries shouldn't wait.

Yeah ... what I said. 8-B(y)

Yeah ... but your are doing a boatload every day. I tried my approach because I figured my legs needed recovery time. ;) Think anyone bought that lie ... masking the lazy.

True. I have been doing 6-8 sets of 10-12 body weight squats, sit ups, push ups, and planks (30 seconds) per day. [emoji4]

But I will fight you to the death. Just saying. That’s how we old guys roll.

Exactly! I retired in January after 20 years in the Pharmaceutical and medical device industry. I’ve had numerous ankle tendon injuries. On my street I have three primary care physicians. Early on felt pressured to go to them, get an X-ray and be told.......uh, I think it might be arthritis. WTF! These guys aren’t specialists. Go direct!

Usually the therapy is the same for a fracture or tendon disjunction so the insurance only wants to pay for a cheap X-ray. MRI is exponentially more expensive. But you know exactly what you are dealing with. Go to your primary care physician to get an antibiotic for your sinus infection or whatever but put your injuries in the proper hands.

OK ... good information, let me alter my original post:

"If I have a bad muscle/tendon/bone injury ... I go straight to MRIimaging center without doc or insurance permission."

The idea would be to get the images required for the particular injury. Maybe x-ray for bones, MRI for muscles/tendons ... imaging center has the expertise and performs required imaging. From there ... you are given the results, and maybe routed to appropriate specialist, or maybe just PT.

On both hamstring injuries, I just made some educated guesses on injury grade based on google searches. It would be much better healthcare to be able to go straight to an imaging center for a reasonable price to see how bad a tear you are dealing with, and make choices from there.

So who is designing our current healthcare systems ... docs or insurance companies?
