Photo shared on social media shows her at 20 weeks with Reddit co-founder Alex Ohanian’s child (presumably - unless 20 weeks means something else here which I doubt).

All tabloid links for references though, but still. Very happy for her if true!

If it's true, then congrats to her. She's nearly 36, engaged and I guess a gal can't wait too much longer if she wants to start a family!

This will definitely mean the end of her season (not that we see much of her anyway) and most likely a good part of the next one too by which time she will be 38 or almost. Will she really want to return to the tour at that point?

This is the end of the line for 35 year old Serena Williams. She can't make a comeback at the age of 37.
After she bring a child into the world she won't play another set of competitive tennis.

As of 04-19-2017, you can stick a fork in Serena Williams. She is done.

Disagree. If Venus can win at 37, Serena can. No challengers on the horizon.

Well. Well.
Congratulations.

She went out with a bang...

In other news, Margaret seems happy (although it's hard to tell :) )

Well, Margaret herself came back and won majors after giving birth, as did Evonne Goolagong and Kim Clijsters. Also, the worst thing you can do to someone like Serena is tell them they can't do something, because they will move heaven and earth trying to prove you wrong.

True. Although Court came back three times after giving birth - pretty sure Serena Williams can't top that!
Also, all the other mothers were considerably younger. That said, they had considerably more competition than Williams does now, so yup, it's possible.

Goat to be discussed in another thread. Debatable that she is goat. Definitely in the top 5. (Court, Navratilova, Evert, Graf).
Court is not even in the discussion (almost half of her majors were Australian Open's and before the Open Era). And frankly neither Evert nor Navratilova are in the discussion anymore since Serena has passed both of them 4 majors ago. The only real contender's for GOAT are Graf and Williams. And since Williams has surpassed Graf in majors, that seems to be fairly definitive.

According to you.
Therefore, debate closed.
No other opinion needed, or indeed, welcomed.
;)
Ps- could you remind me which women were professional prior to tennis going Open in 1968?

Agree she's better than Court, but there are many who say Serena is goat based solely on number of slams. i.e She has more slams than Graf, she is now goat. Can't have it both ways.

Exactly. And it also doesn't factor in the times the AO (and the French to a lesser extent) was deemed not so important by top players - especially Evert who would be on more majors without question had she played more than 6 AOs and not missed 3 French when at her most dominant given the priority for most top players was Team Tennis in the States.

Venus Williams didn't give birth to a child and return to the game at 37.
Serena won't be able to do it.
And much as I like Venus, has she won a tournament at 37?
Although, Serena Williams is a different breed, so I wouldn't count it out. But I would think as a new mother, and given her age, her priorities will change.

If the baby is a girl, I'm sure you'll be pulling for the happy parents to name her Angie!

If she won the Aussie pregnant she would be the 2nd woman to do it? Didn't Court win the Aussie while pregnant one year?

As for if Serena will come back, who knows, she going to be out probably a year at least, at that point its up to her. She's won everything there is to win, unless she really feels she has unfinished business or loves the game that much, she could just say she wants to be with her kid. She loves her man, loves her kid....whether she needs in addition to that is up to her

Congrats to Serena. Now she can start a new life by raising a happy family and a devoted mother. She had a great tennis career and doesn't have to prove anymore since she's the second greatest tennis player of all time.

I wonder if she can win the rest of the WTA majors if she continues playing? I doubt there's any precedent for such a spectacle, but given the field she's competing against, I'm not sure anyone could stop her.
