No thread for WTA's biggest superstar matchup? Maria has come out blazing and taken a 4-1 lead.
Well, that didn't last long. You almost made me search for a stream. Almost. We'll see.No thread for WTA's biggest superstar matchup? Maria has come out blazing and taken a 4-1 lead.
She can try lol.Maria should throw her racquet at her.
Especially since she's also concerned with just getting the serve in.4 games in a row, 5-4 Williams. So far this tournament, Williams found great counters IMO. Sharapova takes forever between her 1st and 2nd serve; can't blame her given that she consistently put on the defensive on the return of serve.
This is so true lmaoEven if it's 6-2 5-0 40-0 in favor of Sharapova, I still think somehow Serena will win.
That's just nonsense, Maria clearly earned the scoreline at 4-1 she was making some truly great shots that Serena, who can't move nearly as well as she did in her prime, could not get to.This is so true lmao
I see this match has already started. Im suprised the scoreline is so close, when they play its more about how many games Serena feels like giving her than how many Maria can earn.
LOLSharapova was great going 4-1 up, but after that she bottled it. Made 3 UEs to give Serena the break back and from then on hasn't played as well. Serena's been the same throughout the whole set, maybe served a bit better towards the end but that's it.
The set was definitely in Sharapova's hands until she blew her service game making three unforced errors.LOL
Clearly the match is all in Sharapova's hands.
We will ignore all the UE's that Serena made at the early part of the first set.
The set was definitely in Sharapova's hands until she blew her service game making three unforced errors.
Serena hasn't been impressive for a while now, and she certainly didn't impress when she came back in that set due to Maria's level dropping off.Sharapova was ahead because she was playing well and Serena's low level of play and unforced errors
now you are contradicting yourself but are accurate that Serena is no where near her best right now...Serena hasn't been impressive for a while now, and she certainly didn't impress when she came back in that set due to Maria's level dropping off.
More like overheated. She started trying much harder than she actually needed on court, racking up the errors.Serena hasn't been impressive for a while now, and she certainly didn't impress when she came back in that set due to Maria's level dropping off.
Unfortunately Maria does not have the game to beat Serena.3 UEs to give Serena BPs, as expected. Maria just can't hold it all together against Serena, Serena doesn't have to do anything remotely special to beat her. Just be solid enough and she'll implode.
She has the game, just doesn't have the mentality. Can't give away cheap games against Williams whether you're in the lead or not, and that's exactly what she's done in both sets.Unfortunately Maria does not have the game to beat Serena.
She just doesn't.
It's competitive, and it might give Serena fits, but at the end of the day..it's not enough.
What game does she have to challenge Serena? She has the game, just doesn't have the mentality. Can't give away cheap games against Williams whether you're in the lead or not, and that's exactly what she's done in both sets.
We need one. Bring it on!Where is the "Poor Sharapova, got destroyed once more, LOL!" thread?
When Maria plays the other women not named Serena she is able to blast winners from the back of the court or force them into defensive positions that gives her a short ball to easily put away. She cannot do that easily against Serena. Balls that will be winners or forced errors against lesser players are nothing to Serena and she can get them easily and force Maria on defense. Serena on defense >>>>>>> Maria on defense. When you add in Serena's serve there is really nothing Maria can do.She has the game, just doesn't have the mentality. Can't give away cheap games against Williams whether you're in the lead or not, and that's exactly what she's done in both sets.
Actually she was nice. She let Sharapova have a break lead in both sets, even letting her lead 4-1.Ok I peeked at the score. Haven't seen the match yet, but it's obvious Serena must have cheated
Where's the gif where she tries to console her ("you tried.....)?
She's so much stronger than the other girls,it's not really a fair fight. In 100 years,1000 years,I doubt we'll see another women's player so physically superior to the other womenSometimes Serena just randomly starts hitting so hard against Sharapova it reminds me of playing Topspin 3 when I maxed out my character's power, forehand, and backhand stat. Ridiculous power with ridiculous ease. I was hoping they showed the speed on some of those forehands Serena hit; I think some were 100 mph or higher.
Yes she is stronger than most, if not all of the other women. But if strength was it only she would get far but not as far as she has. She's also so much quicker and athletic than the other big ball strikers. But her coup de grâce, the thing that sets her apart from all the other big ball strikers, is her incredible will to win. Having all 3 makes Serena what she is today. She's so much stronger than the other girls,it's not really a fair fight.
