If you think she is anything close to a male bodybuilder you need to look again. Even in her hay day when she was muscular she wasnt in 1/10 of a bodybuilder. Your comment has no validity at all.

To you maybe. To me it is perfectly valid. I am not disputing her tennis skills here. I am only talking about aesthetics. You don't have to agree with me. Fine with me.

This was your empty diagnosis:

Aside from that bit of unsubstantiated nonsense, you did not provide even an ounce of evidence to say:

The subject in question is not fat, as the muscle to fat ratio of SW is not in any recognized danger zone. Even a layman--using the most recent photo and videos of Williams can see she is not in any danger due to alleged excess weight, so your comment quoted able is irrelevant.

...which does not apply to Williams.

According to you? So you are now an expert on the (ignored) differences in human physiology enough to be able to apply some mythical standard? I can only imagine the people you use as the model of health.

...which is irrelevant, as we are dealing with her current medical and physical condition--a state where excess body weight is not an issue.

Nonsense.
Serena would be healthier if she was lighter since the day she played tennis. If you think Serena’s weight and physic is an ideal type then you are simply delusional. I suggest you should go visit a doctor(if you ever had) to learn more about good health and fitness, otherwise don’t spew your ignorant in here.

Serena-Williams-tennis-247734_416_300.jpg

Serena has muscle but she also has a lot of fat, there’s no denying that. More wear and tear on the body when carrying extra weight is not good for the knees. Duh !

An excellent example of a very fit person is Chris.
xinsrc_24211032711378432215980.jpg

Serena’s fitness can’t compared to her pinky! Chris had played a ton of tennis, and was very consistent including making 33 slam finals in her career. Also she has great stamina/endurance, which is no surprise how dominant she was on clay. Serena fitness was poor is a testament of her weakness on clay. You can’t expect to have good stamina/endurance with so much weight.

The thing is, Serena has a completely different body type. Even she lost weight, she would not look like Chris. Serena was extremely fit in her prime. Look at this pic from the 2004 RG. She has cut arms and her stomach is as flat as possible.

Only TMF would make an issue about Serena being fat. She cannot change her body figure just by losing weight. Besides she has won 13 slams with her body so she clearly does not need to look like Sharapova or Jankovic.

She cannot change her body figure, but she can lose weight. And the point is Serena's is heavy, and is not fit and healthy. Can she played full time tennis? I'm not so sure anymore. If you believe to have good health and fitness a person should be a Serena type then you need to go and a doctor too.

Wtf is this nonsense? Why does everyone need to be like Serena to be in good health. Humans vary in body structure. Serena does not need to lose any weight, she is probably fitter than 99% of the population considering she is a professional athlete. You are the one who needs to see a specialist, Sharapova is a very skinny girl yet she is not as good of an athlete as Serena. Heck, Sharapova's movement around the court is atrocious.

I never said that.

And I never said Maria is perfect fit either.

When you look at every sport, notice in general athletes are simply more fit when they are not as big as Serena.

If Serena was 20lbs less I strongly believe she could have played more tennis.

Fed hardly has any fitness problem in his career. How many time has Fed ever missed a slam event? How many?

The guy is a machine and do you dare to compare him to Serena in the past decade(they are at the same age).

And when you say "quite a bit of fat", that would be like Nalbandian, so don't exaggerate.

Truthfully, Nadal looks like he is one of the fittest on the men's tour. Doesn't look like he has much body fat to me and his upper body is muscular.
Fed has better legs though and nicer broad shoulders!

No, do not try to backtrack from your ridiculous comment. You said that Federer hardly has any body fat. You must be completely clueless about judging the amount of body fat someone has. Federer has body fat and it is not just a minute amount, alright? I can walk into any local gym and see people who are more cut than Federer.

Also, I never said Federer is not fit and neither did I ever "dare" to compare him to Serena.

This is a man who has almost no visible body fat despite not being as fit as Federer, who has much more body fat.

You should maybe learn the meaning what "hardly no bodyfat" means first before carrying on. Even this dated picture of Federer does not show someone with "hardly any bodyfat".

Here is picture that is more recent:

Keep in mind, muscle weighs more than fat and Federer, who is the same height as Nadal, weighs exactly the same even though Nadal is way more muscular than him. Federer definitely carries around some extra weight. Hey TMF, maybe he should lose weight too! 20 grand slams would be a snap that way.

That makes zero sense.

Has nothing to do with her weight. Anyone who has had surgery on their leg(s) and then keeps it immobile has a increased risk of PE. I just can't believe that posters are focused on her weight just so they can kick her when she's down.

There is a reason that people get second opinions and i can find several studies that say carrying any where from 15-20 extra pounds (above the standard BMI for your height) is healthy. i have also seen recent studies that say obese people are not necessarily unhealthy in terms of heart functioning.

That's why it is important for all people to get regular check ups. one of the biggest problems in health care is that people dont keep up with their health for a variety reason and most seek treatment late when earlier care could have been most helpful.

NFL linemen are NOT fit at all, and are rather unhealthy. They have a lot of visceral fat, which catches up to them eventually. When their careers are over, they stop exercising as much, become sedentary, unmask underlying health issues, and often suffer from various heart problems, hypercholesteremia, arthritis, diabetes, etc. :(

I don't know where you got your info from but obesity is a problem. In fact, in America they are concerned about young children being overweight. Because of the junk food they intake and not active enough. Today video game and tv is the big reason why children are involve outside activity. Here's an example of a growing concern in America.

I would say this applies mainly to Olinemen but the dline is usually more fit and recently you see more former players actaully sheading weight

but lets be serious here we cant compare serana to 350+ pound linemen people are taking this to an extreme.

just because she doesnt have a body type that you like or would want to have doesn't make her unhealthy.

And to make it clear I put emphasis on linebackers - Urlacher, Orakpo, Patrick Willis, Ray Lewis - guys who probably fit TMF's narrow view of 'large' who are some of the fittest guys on the planet. Same applies w/ Serena.

Serena's not even the largest girl on the WTA tour. Kleybanova, Petrova, Bartoli, are all larger relatively speaking.

To sum up: TMF is just being a WS hater as always and attacking Serena for whatever he can.

Unhealthy people can be either thin or fat. However, "fatter" people, or those with higher BMI, are more likely to suffer from health problems. That is not to say that Serena is unhealthy (nor do I even know what her BMI is). All it means is that as a population as a whole, there is a general correlation that higher BMI leads to higher disease state. This cannot be individualized, however, since again, this is by population. In any case, there have been studies that show that even weightlifters with high BMI suffer from more disease than those with "normal" BMI. Interesting. :)

Perhaps Serena could stand to lose a few pounds, but she really isn't overweight to the point where it can cause health problems. Not even close actually, and what matters is really BF%, not weight. Her arms look pretty toned, as well as her legs, so I'd hazard a guess that her bodyfat is similar to a player like Wozniacki (or was, when Serena was playing fit).

As for clay, I really doubt it is due to her fitness. Kuztenzova won in 2009, and she is visibly way more out of shape than Serena. Why do Federer and Roddick struggle (relatively) on clay? Their game is not best suited to the surface.
