I’m actually getting top grades in my accounting degree, working towards getting a grad job at a big 4 firm and then my CPA.

Just got a new gym program and booked a music festival over New Years with my mates.

I’m certainly not having millions of dollars handed to me while I abuse my position and the people around me, then accuse everyone for being sexist when I’m called out. Is that good enough for you?

Its not about me, don't sit here and act like you do everything perfect, you're missing the point. (actually no you aren't you just WANT to hate).

It's not my place to judge her, neither is it yours. Say how you feel and move on. An 80 page thread bashing someone is DISGUSTING.

Oh pfffft stop clutching those pearls.
It is my place to judge her because she basically blamed her cr@ppy behaviour on non-existent sexism perpetrated by the gender I belong to.

She can go do one.

So you grew up black in the poorest neighbourhood in America? Who are your kidding!

The reality is that you have very privileged circumstances and yet you still have a chip on your shoulder.

Fake news. The Williams were far from poor, and didn't "grow up" in Compton. Both of Serena's parents made pretty good money. I believe Serenas mom was a nurse. They moved to Compton, from Minnesota, because Richard thought living in Compton would motivate his daughters and toughen them to compete. They moved to sunny Florida when Serena was 9 years old, to train for free under professional guidance.

That is correct.

That is why I don't particularly approve of Mr. Brump's way of putting arguments forward.

For all his knowledge (and he undoubtedly has that) he puts too much distortion in the interpretation of the facts he works with to consider his arguments an honest and healthy point of view.

They were a lot further from poverty that the person who wants to join an elite corporation and who was playing the 'class card'.

I notice how you just forget about her being black.

I said that they were black and grew up in one of the poorest neighbourhoods in America, both of which are accurate statements.

I notice how you too just forget about her being black.

News Flash! It's not a social advantage to be black. Look up a few works and you''ll find that is factual.

And your friend was playing the 'class card' by trying to depict himself as struggling while she enjoyed wealth.

Not everyone obsesses about skin color like you.

She grew up there, just as I said she did. I didn't initially put a time frame on it, so why do one now?

And moreover she grew up black, so that is more in need of a definition given everyone ignores the fact.

Oh, so you want to play stickler for words!

Define "grew up", stickler.

She actually didn't, as growing up is associated with quite a lengthy period, quite a lot bigger than the time she lived there.

I assume you knew that, so your objection along with your effort to move away from one of the focal points in your statement stink.

Doesn't Serena Williams have a 'reality' show.
So probably not the best analogy
:)

That's not the point, the point is we ALL do wrong, the difference is we don't have a thread about how lousy some of your or my tendencies are. Sure she's in the public eye, but this is way beyond a civilized discussion, it's gluttony for hate.

Ultimately Serena was hoist on the petard of her own moral vanity on this one. The umpire correctly detected an offence and issued a warning. Serena went off on a tangent of false moral posturing with regard to being called "a cheat" when her team were guilty of the offence. Plenty of other players have been accused of this type of "cheating" without turning it into a melodrama because they know as professional athletes they're not as pure as driven snow. Serena seems incapable of accepting she's a person of ordinary imperfection and subject as is anyone else to the impartial application of the rules of the sport.

I don't find it less than amusing.
The rabid pro/against Serena Williams can have their say. It's a forum.
But it's also fed by those posting "we should all just shut up already ".

Realistically it is a huge controversy.

Personally, I'm greatly enjoying it. Mean. Probably. But l don't take Williams that seriously any more. She courts controversy. Loves publicity. Likes to be in the public eye.

Result for her.

I don't agree with what she did, the thing is it isn't making my day better, nor do I have any desire to sit here and smirk and go on and on and make fun of her. She was wrong, I think she was wrong, and I let it go. That's all, it's giving some people entirely too many XP's to sit here and do this. To the point where I almost feel bad for her, she DOES have a daughter, and like any other person's mom, I wouldn't want to sit online and bash them. It was a weak and lame thing to say on court, but you guys are only starting to prove her right now.

For those of us that have 'rationally ' disliked Serena Williams for years she just fed in to that.
Yes, she has a child (I think l read that).
But she is accountable for her own behaviour that has fed this frenzy. That's on her.
And something she has to explain to her child, should she ever have to.
Lead by example, not turn it in to being a 'victim'.

I know you're coming from a good place, but she's 'only been human' too frequently.
And, especially when losing.

This is why Im a Venus fan and not a Serena fan, but I respect how GOOD she is at playing tennis, and understand she's ultra competitive and not perfect. It's not easy having so many people waiting on you to fail. This thread is a pristine example of just that. At least at the end she tried to pull it together and say enough, and make it about Naomi, the old Serena wouldn't even do that. Yes it was late, but she's at least trying to correct herself and I respect that too.

Putting all posters in this thread under one umbrella is what renders your position very weak, as your statements start to be increasingly false.

By the way, if you don't know it, this thread is actually a merger of many other threads, which had their fine detailing, which is now immersed in whatever single context is perpetuated by any side of the conversation.

I suppose that it will get deleted and it was just a clever manoeuvre to put a net and catch all the fish (discussions) in one go, so that a lot of work is spared, but whatever the purpose, there were different aspects of the situation being discussed that are now less visible.

They are both the same in my eyes, fancy bears showed them for what they are. Two peas from the same pod, only the younger one is more overtly nasty.

Last time I checked I was having a conversation with just a few people, but nevermind logic.

So, your days go by without any critical thinking being done?

Unless im playing TS4 ;)

Last time I checked you made sweeping statements about this thread as a whole, and then some even bigger ones regarding involvement of character traits.

Playing TS4 is fun for you, I am sure, but I seriously doubt that that experience is very helpful outside of having a bit of fun while playing it.

Last time I checked this thread was not about TS4.

Naahh, his feelings most definitely not hurt. He is following the strict codes of being an umpire. He has to uphold those standards. Again, USTA had choice of who they wanted to officiate the final. If they wanted a less strict umpire, they could have chosen...
Strict codes as you put it mean well defined and no leeway. This is not the case. Standards, ha ha

The Washington Compost the definition of fake news. This is the way of liberal thinking it’s never my fault it’s always someone else’s.
Conservative thinking, "it never happened", "screw you", now get out of my way so I can play golf with the money I exploitively got from you, your family and friends, oh and by the way I need to treat you as inferior because that's what I was taught by my parents."

Which is not surprising and I knew he would come out in defense of her, as will the majority of the tennis players, ex players, etc. I'm just going to comment and not bother talking about this again since it has become less about talking about Serena's behavior and more about how much can we trash Serena on here and redefine every way that she is a horrible human being. The whole situation was unfortunate and the reaction on here just rubs me the wrong way to be honest.

Like I said yesterday. Carlos Ramos is a pr**k. Djokovic knows it, Del Potro also knows it and he spoke up for her as well, and plenty of other players know it. He should have diffused the situation yesterday and he didn't. Serena should have contained herself and she didn't. It takes two to tango but it was his job to calmly explain to her after the first warning when she started getting upset that it was directed at her coach and not at her. It's same thing Davenport, Annacone and Wertheim said on Tennis Channel and they also said like I did the game penalty was excessive. So yea Serena was embarrassing but he played his part as well. That's pretty much all I'm going to say about that.

This is definitely not a case of "it takes two to tango". He was letting her vent for quite a while until she attacked his character by calling him a thief.

So... women should be allowed to insult the umpire and berate him for 15 minutes.

lol

I bet you claim you're for equality.
Equality is a given, no question there, just need to stop the exploiters, will benefit all....except the exploiters. If the ump can't take the ribbing, get out of the chair, baby's feeling's hurt?
