I've met some strong female people in my life. I've never seen any of them behave like that at all.

What Serena did isn't a sign of a strong woman, it's a sign of a childish, self centred and spoilt Person.

In other words, she acted like a typical feminist. Feminists worldwide will be proud.

Of course they’re proud. All the “yasss kweeners” and the “woke” millenials are out in force “fighting this racism and oppression of multi-millionaire celebrities”

Billie Jean King is talking nonsense. Carlos Ramos has a history of enforcing the rules by the letter. He has given code violations to numerous men for being "emotional". For instance:
  • Djokovic was penalised by Ramos for unsportsmanlike conduct after yelling at the French Open in 2017.
  • At the 2016 French Open, Nick Kyrgios was given a code violation by Ramos for yelling at a ball boy.
  • Ramos gave Andy Murray code violation for saying "stupid umpiring" at the 2016 Olympics.

Exactly. There’s no persecution going on here. It’s just a man doing his job.

I like the sweaty butt. Post away :D
I would remove the sweaty butt if there wasn't an entire thread with hundreds of pages of nothing but women's "parts" and multiple posters with bikini or boob pics. I don't really see how one sweaty butt is lowering the standard.

Tripling my posting is going to be hard though, I do have elbow tendonitis, I'll have to get out my brace to be able to accomplish this feat.

I was with you almost....almost until the end. She was not representing any women's rights.

I feel that Serena was treated unfairly, but that there IS room for criticism of her. We would never have even gotten close to the game penalty if she had got herself under control and channeled her emotions into her tennis, as she has done so many times before. Had she done that she might have turned the match around, as she has so many times before. Serena could have handled herself better, the ump could have handled himself better, the crowd could have handled itself better. Osaka's tennis and poise was remarkable. The twenty year old showed them all, and was rewarded with a tainted victory. So unfair.

That's not the impression I get from looking around Google. It's 50-50 at best, and that's being generous. Where I live - Britain - the media and public are definitely more against her than with her.

I meant global coverage from New York to LA. Not foreign countries like Britain and France - I'm sure they would rather support one of their own Ramos the chair umpire. No surprise there. People from foreign countries don't like American sporting heros and their generosity and other great human qualities.
Carlos Ramos is a personification of the unfair advantage they exercise.

The sexist trope of the hysterical woman played a major factor in that weak 'abusing the umpire' call.

She made disparaging remarks about the umpire's integrity. For reasons best known to herself Williams referred to him as a liar in terms of his officiating of the match when the post match evidence where Williams' coach conceded he was coaching show Ramos to be telling the truth. Match officials do not have to put up with false allegations against their professional integrity from players whether they're male or female. If Williams really has belief in her own arguments she should escalate this through official channels but I doubt she'll have the courage of her platitudes.

No male player who's reached a GS final in the last 15 years that I have been following the game would behave the way Serena did. Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Murray, Wawrinka, Del Potro, Ferrer, Berdych, Safin, Hewitt, Roddick, Cilic, Agassi, Soderling you take anyone. Forget male players, I would say the same thing about other female players as well. No one other than Serena would do that. They may get one code violation for coaching/racquet abuse but they would not repeat it, nor would they throw a temper tantrum like her and berate the umpire. Serena has a problem and it has nothing to do with her gender or race.
Yes. And her problem is worsened because people around her (players, commentators, fans, her family most likely) enable her by ridiculously claiming she's done nothing wrong.

It's not half as offensive as some of the stuff that gets said around here. But you've been around. You know the type.

I didn't get coaching, I didn't get coaching. I didn't get coaching
.

Incorrect. Patrick admitted it.

You need to make an announcement that I didn't get coaching

Also incorrect. It is not your place to dictate to officials what he should or shouldn't do.

I have a daughter and I stand for what is right for her

This is not relevent to this situation, Serena.

'You will never, ever, ever be on another court of mine as long as you live.

This is not your call, unless you're planning to retire?

You're a thief too.'

He has stolen nothing from you. YOU however, have stolen somebody's joy at winning the US Open title for the first time.

Are you kidding me? Are you kidding me?

Nobody in their right mind would kid you, Serena, because you have little sense of humour.

You know me. You know my character.

Interpretation - I'm the well known Serena Williams. I deserve special leniancy. That kid from Japan on the other hand...

This has happened to me too many times

Correct. What does that tell you? And no the world doesn't hate black people and women.

Do you know how many men do things that are much worse than that?

Yes. But those things are irrelevent to this situation.

I'm here fighting for women's rights and for women's equality

No you're here to play tennis. Nobody gives a rat's ass about your political opinions. Your tennis is unique. Your political opinions are ten-a-penny.

I just feel like the fact that I have to go through this is just an example for the next person that has emotions, and that wants to express themselves, and wants to be a strong woman.

There was only one person who fitted that description last night, and that was Naomi Osaka.

Maybe it didn't work out for me, but it's going to work out for the next person.'

I'm quietly confident the next person to do all this will also be picking up the runners up platter.

I agree. Serena acted like McEnroe for most of the match. All 3 violations were legit and now Serena is getting praised. Serena ruined the match for Osaka and Serena was 100% responsible for the situation. Most players know to clean up their behavior after the 1st warning but Serena kept pushing it.

Bingo. All this sexism nonsense - if that were McEnroe, we’d be seeing those clips for 30 years and no one would question the chair umpire. It was just like Mac at his worst, Connors at his worst ...

Yes she was. That’s literally how feminists in the West act.

1. Act like a child or a bully
2. Get called out on it
3. Play the victim

It’s as predictable as birds flying north for the winter.
If that is the case it's unfortunate. The poster I quoted said worldwide. Believe me there is a lot to be done to improve the lives of women all over the world including getting them out of child marriages, abuse and rights to do some basic things like education.

This seem to be where western culture is heading. Intolerance of criticism at any level. Universities restricting freedom of speech because someone may take offensive. I feel a Bill Burr style rant coming on but Bill Mayer will do just as well:

Absolutely not. I believe Serena lost it as bad as she did because she knew she was going to lose the match. It was just adding insult to injury.

Two tirades earlier. Where she was explaining to Ramos that she wasn't getting coached and that she had never received off court coaching in her career (which she hasn't). How would that be fair. Saying the umpire stole a point from you is NOT name calling. A thief is someone who steals. So how is explaining the term thief by initially saying that you stole from me count as verbal abuse.

Ramos was way to trigger happy pulling out the code violations. The game penalty was an absolute farce. When has anybody received a game penalty after receiving a point penalty.

Well done to Naomi, she won and played well and keep her cool but the match was soured by Ramos being too power hungry, giving a game penalty in a GS final. Absolutely atrocious

Nope. Wrong.

1. Serena's coach ADMITED on live tv he was coaching (that the rule is hardly applied and everyone coaches on court is not Ramos fault).
2. Racquet abuse of course is on the rules (no issue here)
3. Calling a ref a thief is of course an insult. Ramos IMMEDIATELY awarded her the warning after she called him a thief.

Happena when you think you're untouchable and unaccountable. She pushed the limits abd backfired.

And then the whole drama and the "woman card" was just disgraceful. She is a poor champion.

And I was rooting for her to win.

This is a sexist statement if ever their was one...

If you have a “front hole” then you are exempt from being labeled a sexist. You can dish out any reverse sexist remarks without fear of being labeled. People with pc-blinders on are more likely than not, inept in the realm of logic. I have seen some “highly educated”, or highly brainwashed folks, who are so rigid in their thinking, while operating in their indoctrinated construct, that they immediately fire condemning labels when confronted with opposing viewpoints. Their normal bias is so skewed, they cannot entertain that perhaps contradicting views could be valid and true. The mainstream media has successfully implanted these triggers amongst the perceived educated ignorants.

Hey, before you try to rebut my message, think again. Are you that rigid person I am speaking of?

You have been labeled by little tennis_hands a mysoginist; what's that? If he meant to label you a misogynist, then in this case wear the label
proudly. For little tennis_hands does not know what he is talking about. In this case you have every right to call out a loud-mouthed, sexist,
entitled mummy, race baiter.

little tennis_hands

Let me help you, please. Did you mean misogynist? Or, did you mean mysoginist?

Aloha

Call me ignant, can a transgendered man (formerly woman) be called a misogynist? Or is it mysoginist? This is all so confusing.

Oh yes I’m well aware of that :)

But unfortunately feminists in the West really don’t care about that. They’ll just call you racist for being “insensitive” to inhumane ‘cultural practices’.

(Yes, I’ve heard it all before lol)

Well, I can believe in this story because if a man said the same thing to his wife that relationship wouldve been over right there on the spot
And you know that because?

A very good friend of mine was abused by her husband for years...years after marriage. She stayed in it only for her children. Care to explain this?

Well, Kyrgios is constantly arguing. Serena's last incident was, what, 7 years ago?

TBH there have been times where I was on Nick's side personally but he makes it hard b/c he has minimally 5 outbursts in any given year.

Well, Kyrgios is constantly arguing and he is constantly being called on it. That's exactly the point. Plus, he has matured a lot and he is never (as far as I have seen) malicious.

I don't think what Serena did will bring Western civilization down. But the attempts to justify her very immature behaviour by the US press while accusing the umpire of all mortal sins very well might :) Come on, she is a veteran; she should know better. She was very much out of line and even her coach didn't lie in order to defend her; he admitted he had been coaching. Pretty telling, don't you think.

serena's net worth : $180 million
USO gold badge umpire pay : $250 a day

Wow, wouldnhave thought umpires would get more than that. It’s besides the point, though.

I meant that people seem to hate Serena with a vitriol that doesn’t seem comensurate with her crimes.

Pretty much saying don't blame us, blame the chair umpire. Cowards. Should have said the umpire was following the rules and left it at that.

I thought it was clear that they were saying (albeit not in so many words) that the chair umpire followed the rules. It's a dry statement but it's not that hard to parse imo.

I personally wasn't sure whether the coaching rule required the player to participate in coaching and the statement clarified for me that it doesn't, it's enough that the player box coaches (which makes sense as it puts onus on players, who are indeed best positioned to do so, to make sure the box behaves like it should).

I'm guessing that the "it's not reviewable" part is probably a response to a bunch of people @-ing at them to step in and do sth.

Billie Jean King can't help interjecting herself when Serena Williams melts down at the US Open finals and blames sexism for her problems (no...it couldn't be her out of control tirade). But she and other misguided feminists should know that in 1995 Jeff Tarango, at Wimbledon, received from Bruno Rebeuh, a code violation for an "audible obscenity". It caused him to blow up and leave the court.
He didn't have his gender to blame for his problem but the point is Billie Jean King and Serena Williams do all women no favors by hiding behind their petticoats like Victorian maidens when trying to cope with problems of their own making. She got what was coming to her, female or not.

I've always felt like it should be held away from New York. Maybe because I'm a flyover guy but I've never associated NYC as a place that is real America.

That's the problem. What's left wing is almost rightwing in another country. What's feminism in someone's mind is lunacy in another. Serena was not representing anything other than her inflated ego. I am someone who cares deeply for women's rights. I don't call myself anything of course. It is what it is.

I've read hundreds of reactions in many languages from around the world, and what happened yesterday went beyond tennis, because the reaction of Serena, the crowd and the US media unable to express the slightest criticism vis-à-vis the player has shocked many people.
Tennis has a reputation for being a graceful and classy sport, but yesterday's events have shaken that positive image.

I think they are taking revenge for the heavily justified America first policy of the current us government. People are tired of being taken advantage and foreign countries don't like the fact that US has become smart and standing up for itself.

'Global' coverage from New York to LA? Is this like the World Series thing in Baseball? Only America matters?

Ramos is not English or French, to my knowledge. And the vast majority of Brits have a very healthy respect for Americans and the country at large. Your post is nonsense.
