Sad news. Kim has it in the bag now it looks like. I hope Serena gets well soon. What horrible luck to have this injury while she was doing so well.

Knew it wouldn't be long before stupid/inane/silly comments appeared. Tautology is deliberate for the less intelligent/less informed/dumb.

I can only live in hope..

Anyone else finds all this stuff very suspicious?

I mean unable to heal the foot during 7 month? Annonce to skip the AO almost 2 months before the event? For real?

The most soft explanation of this I see that see just don't wanna show up there not 100% ready she's going to win. But that's not an excuse. Why does the WTA allow top players to skip lion's share of the season + next season without any logical excuse. Serena may care only about winning slams, but she also should care about the sport of tennis and the fans of this sport. Respect them and her opponents. Jeez....

Oh well, no WTA AO viewing for me. The rest of the tour is bland without Serena. I can only hope Jelena pulls her game out of the potty, doesn't look like that's going to happen. So, I guess no more WTA until Serena returns.

That's just you. With or without her makes no difference to tennis fans. Unless a few fanboys out there who believe she's bigger than the sport. ugh...

Her foot was operated on twice this year. Read her comments on the WTA website. Not sure where you are coming from. The Williams sisters don't pull punches. If they don't want to play they will say it.

I have to disagree. Never heard her said in the past that she simply not interested in playing. There's always a reason to miss a tourney whether if she speaks the truth or not.

Unless you refering to IW, where she flat out said she won't play(and we know the reason why).

Of course it's me. I only post my opinion. What others think has no bearing on me.

I don't even know how to respond to this

Why would a professional tennis player show up to play a tournament if they are not 100% sure they'd be able to win matches?

Would you rather Serena came in form that would cause her to lose in the first round? Or better yet, re-aggravate her injuries?

That's just a really bizarre statement on your part.

So if Federer missed AO would you still watch? Of course not...at the very least you'd watch less. To say a top player missing a major tournament has no impact just shows what little grasp of reality you really have when it comes to certain things.

Your clueless. Of course I'll watch. I watch tennis b/c I'm a fan of the sport, not just b/c of one particular player, unlike a few only interested in a player, not the sport. When Henin/Kim retire, I still watch. You know nothing!

Fair enough. I'm just saying there's only a few out there see the way you see it.
I understand. I take pride in thinking for myself.

However, I don't think what you're saying is true. Serena has always been a fan favorite and the WTA is extremely disappointed with her absence. She packs the seats and it's not just me filling them.

Even after her outburst at last year's USO she won the Laureus Sportsman award this year, so somebody's voting for her. The world is not made up of TT'ers opinions thankfully.

Well, you may not know this, but there are some casual fans outside of TTW who only watch women's tennis or tennis in general when the WS are playing. I know that hurts you for me to say that, but its true.

Also, as I eluded to, it's never good for tennis whenever a top player is out w/ injury for a major tournament. It wasn't good when Nadal missed Wimbledon, it wasn't good when Henin missed the USO, and it's not good that Serena is missing these events. To say it has no impact is ludicrous.

I wonder if Serena is pregnant.. to pull out of an event that's occurring almost 8 weeks from now is kind of fishy. It's not like she needs to be 100% to win a slam anyway (see last year's AO).

Im definitely not happy about this. Serena makes any slam fun on the WTA side :( She won't win the french so she is pretty much gonna be slamless at least till Wimbledon.
