Given the way the Beast dominated right out of the gate vs Ashriekerneka, but then went walkabout for the next 1.5 sets before miraculously regaining her form to eek out the win, I wonder if she perhaps receives some sort of "appearance fee bonus" if her match goes 3 sets and seems close......as opposed to the routine 6-2, 6-2 match she is capable of.

Suggesting the fix was in? Odds were 3-1 Serena wins in 3 sets.

Gotta love the conspiracy theorists.

On the other hand, maybe Serena lost a bit of focus after taking the 1st set easily, and then had trouble regaining that focus when Vika started playing better. And then at the end, being so close to losing was what jolted Serena back into playing well enough to win, combined with Vika choking just a tiny bit. (no sarcasm intended on that last bit)
