Some serves and forehands. been looking to try and flatten my forehand out and finish points quickly off the forehand and serve. Mostly I'd like tips on maximizing and correctin my serve (since thats mostly what the video is). Vertical arm toss? Trophy posistion? Racket Drop? Thanks for any advice, I've kind of stopped focusing on technique and just trying to get more pace and consistency. And this is where I am now

P.S. Sorry if the vid is too short. I know it doesn't show much but I have a pretty high first serve percentage and double faulting isnt an issue.. although it used to be

Enjoyed the vids. Nice playing and serving, imo. I'm not qualified to critique serve, but wanted to say nice video quality. Thanks for posting.

A few tips:

  • You need to let your right shoulder drop lower, whilst keeping the left shoulder high. It will let you swing up at the ball, letting you generate pace and spin more easily. You need to get your rear shoulder nice and low to 'swing up the mountain'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WlPVdppfYGs
  • You need to let the racquet head drop a lot more at the start of the upswing. It's a kind of flinging motion, imagine you are tossing a ball or something. A good way of practising this motion is to swing a towel.
  • Coil up a bit more, but don't force it - more knee bend, arch the back a little more, go for a reverse C shape. Roddick generated a lot of power from the lower body and is good to copy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIIGwChK3rU
  • A higher or later ball toss, as you don't have time to set up your swing properly with your current toss, as you are rushing to the contact point

Definitely rushing the toss a lot I think, and not coiling enough. if your rushing your toss, you dont have enough time to coil. Maybe even toss it a bit higher and into the court and go after it. Your tall, so you all your height and get the contact point higher.

In saying that I like how simple it looks. Not too much going on, which means not too much to fix up! Seems like your sort of chanelling Roddick/Tomic now as opposed to Federer previously.

Nice serve.

Looks like you rotate your hips a little late and you start the elbow swing before the elbow is completely up.

Is the racquet head drop a concsious thing? Ive always assumed its an unconcsious thing that just happens when you leap into the serve.

Yeah I seem to time it better with a quick service motion. I try to emulate roddick's when I serve.. although now I see its not as close as I thought itd be haha anyway to incorporate a higher toss without sacrificing the quick service motion?

You have true potential.

But change a litle that frog jump

Jump more into the court?

Hey thanks for taking the time to make this, It's really helpful to see how it breaks down. How would I go about rotating my hips a bit earlier? and whats the elbow swing?

Image 11 shows the impact, your hip is not completely turned there, also the right leg jump takes away momentum, at impact try to keep your legs more or less together. The elbow should be fully up between image 8 and 9 and at that point the racket should start to swing from the 'scratching the back' position, in your serve it is half open.

Ah I see what your saying I think . . My hips should be turned more towards the net in image 11?

I think ideally yes. You might want to experiment starting with your feet a bit more parallel to the baseline and see if you can get your hips all the way from perpendicular to parallel to the baseline for maximum range.

I think for maximum power you need maximum distance from the ball before impact of all elements in the kinetic chain. So bending back in the trophy will help, maximum range of the hip will help, maximized upper arm path from trophy to vertical and shoulder high and the lower arm swing path from scratching the back all the way to impact and with pronation.
