serve racquet path in forward swing

I have been looking at serve videos of (roger federer) and had a question about the racquet path during the forward part of the serve. For a right handed player coming out of the loop going forward the racquet alignment towards the top of the swing is with the butt cap pointing straight forward (towards the net) while the elbow is pointing out at maybe a 45 degree angle. The racquet then is pulled straight forward then starts following the path of the elbow out to the right then finishing to the left side of the body to complete the follow through.

My question is if the racquet moves on a path straight and then to the right it would seem that coming out of the loop you should be left (in order to swing left to right). I am hitting the ball at 12 or slightly left of the front foot and it seems hard to get the correct alignment. I have tried this and if the racquet is not far enough over the ball is hit right to left which makes it curve left to right; which is not the correct spin for a right handed player. If someone could assist it would be appreciated. Thank you

Tennisone.com and Tennisplayer.net have the videos I was looking at but both are fee sites. Most of the good servers I have looked at have this motion like Andy Roddick and Pete Sampras. It was just something I noticed it seems most amateur players I see finish left and left which makes them look off balance.
