Serve speed

I don't have access to a speed gun, so I'm just trying to get a ballpark idea of how fast I'm serving...if that's even possible. Generally speaking, is there a speed you have to hit the ball at to have it one hop (land in the service box then bounce directly into the back fence/wall) into the back fence? I can usually land it in the last couple feet of the service box and have it hit about 2-3 feet up the fence, but I have no clue of what kind of speed I'm generating. My second serve usually bounces right before it hits the fence. Just curious...I'm not even sure if any of this is possible.

It depends on your height, where you actually contact the ball, how much spin is on the ball (top or slice), the court surface, the weather, the tennis ball, and a whole bunch of other factors. Just as important, we don't know the distance that the fence is from the court.

So, no, there is no way to know. Judging by your second serve though, probaby not that fast.

How tall am I: 6'2"
Where I contact the ball: Probably about 9.5 feet off the ground about a foot inside the baseline
How much spin: Very flat. Not much spin.
Court surface: Relatively fast hard court (it's an old high school court, one of those red/brown and green ones)
Tennis ball: Various, mostly not new though. I can make the ball hit the back fence with any ball I use.
The weather: I can make the ball one hop into the fence in virtually any kind of weather; it doesn't have to be hot outside.
The distance between the baseline and fence: 21 feet.

So although you may still not be able to answer my question, I just answered all of yours ;)
Oh, and my second serve hits the fence pretty hard, it just usually bounces like 3 feet in front of it. It doesn't bounce really high once it lands...but it has a pretty decent amount of pace on it, from my perspective.

We really can't tell. You can hit a 150 mph bomber that hits the bag fence off the first bounce, or you can hit a 75 mph kick that does the same thing, or anything in between.

it just depends so much. i can get a flat serve to hit a foot or two up the fence. and i can get a kicker to land 3-4 feet up the fence. how fast are they? heck i dont know! heck i dont NEED to know! i know i get a lot of aces off both first and second serves. and thats all that matters to me! serve speed is a useless number to really know! (at least to me!)
