Soderling's Kryptonite

Rafa should watch this match...

It seems Soderling's Kryptonite is continuously pounding him with heavy slice to both FH and BH.

Lopez is actually clearly a more talented player than Soderling. He has just as big a forehand, a better serve, better at the net, and has more variety and feel. It is too bad he wasnt mentally tougher on a more consistent basis otherwise he would certainly be ranked higher than Soderling. He has some bizarre losses and performances though that prevent him being ranked higher, eg- losing to Donald Young twice.

He's like a male, left-handed Graf with poor results...

Heavy slice BH, occasional TS BH and great FH :)

Lopez is far better to watch aswell, Soderling is a baseline basher and Lopez has a really nice S&V/all-court game.

Yeah I agree. Soderling is a dime a dozen player. He plays the same way as literally over a hundred guys on the main tour do these days. It is always nice to see more all court play and variety, while still having the power with the forehand and serve to go with it.

In Spain we all know what prevents him from being ranked higher...........girls + good nightlight = no too good for your tennis career.

He's always been a party boy and likes the modeling more than the tennis.

A waste of talent. What a pity.

Sounds like a bit of the Marat Safin syndrome. :)

The big difference is Safin won big tourneys in his career.

True but Safin is probably one of the most talented players in history. Probably one of the only players that could actually lead that sort of lifestyle and still be ranked in the top 5 awhile and win slams.

Soderling can't handle the short bh slice from Lopez.

nadal should be learning from that. nadal lost to simon last year and then when nadal played simon at the aus open 09 nadal won in straight sets because he hit ZERO 2-hand-backhands and SLICED everything on that side and won in straight sets. Do the same to soderling.

On another note, the last time Lopez beat Rafa was in 2003 on carpet

So, if someone wants an interesting semi, he better root for Sod

It was extremely embarrassing to watch him heavily hangover in the Davis Cup against Harel Levy. He could hardly move or hit a serve.

I don't think I've ever watched anyone embarrassing him/herself so much in front the home crowd.

I am already looking forward to the Nadal-Djokovic final anyway so I dont really care. Lopez is more fun to watch than Soderling regardless if he loses so I would enjoy watching him play another round more than boring, overrated and overranked Soderling anyway. Although I must admit watching Nadal destroy Soderling in the semis would have been sweet also.

Wow I wish I had seen that match. That is pretty amazing to show up for a Davis Cup tie match literally wasted. The Captain must have been p*ssed bigtime, as well as the fans.

if only soderling was good enough to reach nadal

Oh come on stop with this BS,this is like those fed fanboys who were going on how nadal "is not good enough to reach fed in all those HC finals".
What determines whether a player is good or not are his titles, whether GS or MS.

Seeing as soderling hasn't any but has a GS final and produced one of the biggest suprises in tennis,I'd say he is a decent player. Still don't like him because he blatantly cheated in Rome but that's another story.

Soderling-Rafa would be lots of fun. If not for match quality, then certainly for on-court emotions.

Rafa-Lopez ... another beatdown.

Lucky for the caption, they were already 3 up in the tie and had been celebrating the pass to the final the night before. But still very unprofessional of him to go and play an official tennis match totally wasted. Harel did not know what to do! He was as socked as everyone in the crowd.

Losing to Lopez would be a huge setback for Soderling for his masters cup chances considering that one of the contenders Davydenko has advanced today

lol, i'm watchin this steam with has betting info, at the start of the match soderling was at $20 and lopez $100 now it's somthing like $80 soderling $24 lopez.

I didn't watch that match, it was already over for Israel

I'm gonna find it on the net one of these days.
