WELCOME TO THE 2011 SHANGHAI MASTERS PREDICTION LEAGUE!

Anyone at any time can play, so join in on the fun starting Sunday, October 9th!

HOW TO PLAY:
For EVERY match, predict the winner and the number of sets it will take for the winning player to win the match. (EX: [1] N Djokovic (SRB) vs [4] A Murray (GBR) - Murray in 3) If you predict the correct winner but in the wrong number of sets, you'll get THREE POINTS. If you predict both the correct winner and the correct number of sets, you’ll get FIVE POINTS.

Each predictor is also able to pick the winner and runner up of the tournament before the FIRST MATCH. At the conclusion of the tournament, two points will be given to each predictor who predicts a correct FINALIST and an additional three points if the FINALIST finishes in their predicted position of WINNER or RUNNER UP.

You can edit a pick until a particular match starts, however, please always make a new post quoting the original pick. DO NOT EDIT THE ORIGINAL POST.

PREDICTION LEAGUE DOUBLES HEAD TO HEAD CONTEST:

In addition to the regular tournament, each participant can pair up with another one and participate in a doubles tournament. There is no additional match picking or work involved. Your regular league scores are combined with your partner's to compete against another team.

The doubles tournament format is similar to the FIFA World Cup. There are round robin rounds where you and your partner compete against doubles teams in your group. The top two or three teams from your group then move on to the knockout rounds. The exact format will depend on the number of doubles teams.

Y'all this is early, but I'm going out of town tomorrow and won't be back for a while, so wanted to get it out of the way. I'll check in on this on Tuesday.

Remember - the tourny WILL start Sunday. Only two matches on Sunday (going by last year), so winner/rup will be allowed until start of matches on Monday. But those two matches on Sunday will count towards H2H and regular league scores.

----------
If you are bored and what not.. let's play a game of I've never. Or not. Up to you.

I'll start one just in case -

My score: 15

1. I've never successfully hit a tweener.... :(

(The rules - if you don't know them - if you have done something someone lists, take a point off of 15. Whoever goes out first wins... whoever goes out last, loses.)

Oh dear, points to defend. Well I'm in with Breaker.

Have fun on your trip Seff. Too bad the Colts are 0-3 hehe. Texans winning the South!! :)

In to defend H2H title with kpxjam9.

H2H draw will be released Saturday afternoon at around 5:00 PM EST.

In with Boozy.

Voted wrongly on the poll should have been in the company of Ralph and friends. :(

Are you a yanks fan?

Mets. Unfortunately, I don't know what it's like for my favorite teams to win anything other than the 2006 Super Bowl.

Knicks lost in game 7 of Finals in '94 and Mets lost in WS of 2000 and NLCS game 7 in '06.

Disappointment is something I'm used to :)

Ouch, that just reminds me of this family guy joke about being a Mets fan.

Oh yeah guess who the Knicks lost to in 94? :)

It's okay I feel your pain. Astros haven't been good in 6 years, and they surely won't be good for another 4-6 years.

Just checking. I;m mad at the Yankees for their Davydenko like tank job on the last day of the regular season, after my Sox choked their game away.

Sorry, Woody, but I gotta disagree with you on the "tank job" label...you don't get 7 runs ahead when you're tanking...it seems the Rays are on a mission...witness the Game 1 beatdown on the defending AL champions. Methinks most in the Yanks clubhouse are bumming they couldn't win the last two games vs the Rays. They don't wanna see them again this year.

Hmm. Can't say I was rooting for the Sox as I dislike all Boston teams. That being said, Yankees could be in trouble. Rain suspended game today to tomorrow and tomorrow's forecast isn't promising. Going to be a toll on the rotation and they'll probably have to pitch Burnett even though CC wants Sunday and game 5.

If they Yankees wanted to win, they pitch Mariano with the 1 run lead going into the 9th. Plain and simple.

They were ONE strike away from winning w/o Mo. Credit the clutch hitter first...hindsight is always 20/20. 40+ saves from a 40+ player earns downtime b4 the playoffs. Soriano is the bum for giving up the gopherball in game 161.

The Yankees earned the right to rest their players. What if Robinson Cano or Curtis Granderson got hurt? Imagine how much criticism they would have drawn for playing them late into the game.

The Yankees didn't owe anyone a damn thing. I'm not a Yankee fan at all, in fact I really don't like them at all. However, to say they choked is just idiotic.

The Atlanta Braves choked.

The Boston Red Sox choked.

Yankees choking? Are you kidding me? Not even close. If that game had actually meant something, they would have played it out and never blown that lead.

Clutch Hitter? The guy who last had a hit April 27th and last had a HR April 8th? The Yankees played all their backups, which is fine b/c they were allowed to but people shouldn't act like they actually TRIED to win the game.

I don't think woodrow was saying the Yankees choked as much as they didn't mind the Sox getting eliminated and letting the Rays in. You have to admit, it seemed like that.

I didn't say the Yankees choked. I said they tanked. Lol. Big difference.

As a sox fan, it's my obligation to sense conspiracy in September and october. Lol

No. But the funny thing is That I live in San Francisco now. Last year everybody was saying how great Brian wilson's beard was during their world series run. This week they are all saying his bear is a jinx to the team.

Considering most of this year Sox/Yanks games ended with a Sox win I don't think the Yanks wanted to face the Sox in the playoffs. the Red Sox beat them down H2H wise all year and I bet the Yanks are breathing a little sigh of relief that we didn't make it through, especially after the rally from 0-3 several years ago in the ALCS. I very much doubt the Yanks wanted the Sox to get through.

As for them being sad they lost...well...see above. I think they'd much rather have the Rays in the playoffs then the Sox..and the outcome of the game really didn't matter to them...they had homefield advantage all cinched up by then.

Long run..Even if the Yanks had held on, the Sox blew chunks all year against the Rays and in a 1 game playoff I woulda bet on Tampa anyway so it really doesn't matter. But still..if I were the Yankee Skipper..I'd be doing a little happy dance over the Sox not being around anymore.

Hey, hey, hey... Doc is a Phillies fan and you don't hate him! He wore a Phillies tie at work today ... that did not go over well.

I don't HATE Big_Dangerous either. I just hate the Phillies and a portion of their fanbase. That's why I said I'll be quiet. No reason to fight.

And I have no fight left in me after last night anyway.

I need sleep.

Go anyone besides the Yankees lol

Don't matter who wins the World Series as long as it is not with them

You may get your wish...the Yanks are down 2-1 against the Tigers :)

I'm rooting for the Brewers...I dunno why really...probably because it would be a nice change and I personally don't want to deal with all the Rays bandwagon jumpers.
