Shaped poly mains smooth crosses

Brocolt

Rookie
just started testing "soft copoly" strings. I have about 7 that I am testing right now shaped and smooth. Are you finding any added benefit from putting a shaped main and a smooth cross. Friction is limited with the least amount of surface area would two shaped strings slide better? or the shaped sliding on the round?

As soon as I find the shaped string I like best I plan to try a smooth cross possibly Wcannon Silverstring.

I have tried a few hybrids with NVy as the cross but the magic is not there as with the full bed.

A shaped main and a smooth cross is definitely better for me. I want the spin. Get yourself a crisp synthetic gut rather than a soft multi. The synthetic gut seems to hold the tension better and it will create a better snap back effect. I assume that you don't have arm pain. Gosen makes a great synthetic gut for this purpose. However, a full bed of your shaped co-poly will give you the most benefit in terms of spin and control if you have full, fast strokes.

Recommend trying Tourna Big Hitter Silver Rough 17g for Mains and Tourna Big Hitter Silver 17g for Crosses.

The BHS crosses are so smooth that they allow the BHSR mains to slide with ease. I never have to adjust my strings as they always snap back. I have noticed some notching, but only on the mains and never the crosses, so when this happens the mains continue to slide back and forth as we would like.
