ATP has reviewed an appeal from Denis Shapovalov following his default from the quarter-finals of the ATP 500 tournament in Washington. The fines committee has affirmed that officials followed correct procedures in defaulting the player. However, the committee has concluded that loss of rankings points and prize money, which is automatically applied in the case of a default, would be a disproportionate penalty in this case. Shapovalov therefore retains quarter-final points and prize money, with a fine of $36,400 applied for the code violation.

This sound like you scratch my back, I scratch yours. Everyone's done their job well, except Shapo; what a load of crrrraappp.

Seems a trend now following Rublev's one this year.

Keeping the ranking points and prize money is one thing the ATP has done fairly. Perhaps, the organization does not want any high profile lawsuits and bad publicity that would arise from their responsibilities at venues when matches are on.

So the officials did the correct thing according to the rules and defaulted him. Then....they decided to give him his points and money? No spine officials. They're saying they can change the rules as they like.
Wouldn't happen in just about any other sport. Shapovalov is trash.

happens in other sports all of the time.. He lost 36k of 53k. The ATP did the right thing.
