Shapovalov jumping OHBF

One of the best I've seen and he seems to go to it quite a bit.

Edit... found a video (although he hits it out)... the very beginning. I've seen him several times this week do it with more air.

Fred hits jumping 1HBH on returns a lot.

On the run though it makes less sense for a 1HBHer.

Shap needs to learn the slice and dice game for variety. If he hits only topspin on both sides especially with how hard he hits it the top players can adjust and adapt to what's basically the same speed off both wings.

A lot of his UFEs come from going too big on winners. If he was a little more patient and looked to setting up the winner on the following shot, he may do better.

Have to admit, the kid's growing on me. I wasn't a fan after the Davis cup incident.

I agree. He was being pulled wide and in on some backhands and he was still trying to crush them with topspin down the line. When you're inside the baseline like that, unless you hit a clean winner, you're in some big trouble. If he learns to slice that cross-court then he can give himself time to reset and induce a better shot from his opponent that he can attack. He'll learn to construct points better, he's young.

its aesthetically a pleasing shot and can be dangerous, but it results in a lot of errors or him being pushed outside the court and unable to fully recover quick enough.

it does look like a young lefty Federer BH in many respects, hence the instant fascination many on this board will have with it.

I like the kid but didn't everyone say the same thing about Dimitrov too? How Federer-esque he was etc? Look how that turned out. I'll wait before making any comparisons and coming to conclusions. And agreed, he is young. Will learn better point construction hopefully as he gains experience.

Great shot. You can hear the cameras whirring when he hits the ball. I agree about the slice. He will need more variety. Borg never really had a slice until he got to his second Wimbledon final. He and Bergelin realized he needed it to get to the net more effectively. They also worked on his net game. Those 2 changes made a huge difference in Borg's game. I fully believe Denis and his team will do the same.

I don't know what was said or not said about Dimitrov, but agree it's too early to say anything definitive.
