Edmund deserved the set. Shapo not consistent enough to take it. Anticipating shots to his forehand too often- he should recognize that Edmund is attacking his backhand.
 
Too many errors from Shapovalov. The match is on his racquet. He is the aggressive player, Edmund is just pushing.
 
Shap has too much game for edmund, just needs to cut back on the mistakes and mix in some more variety.
 
Edmund's forehand vs Shapo's backhand is an interesting passage of play.

The Shrapnel needs to stay on the baselines, so that those shots push Edmund back. If you can get the ball away from him, then bludgeon him to death with power hitting.
 
Is Shapo's head really that small or is his his hat squeezed that tight on his head where it is halting blood circulation?

Why? I know Denis is exciting but he is only 18 and tbh I'm not sure he was ever the favourite in this match. Edmund is very good as well and he's a little more experienced. I think a lot of people want Denis to win so they're calling him the favourite, but I'm not sure it's objectively true.

The anticipation. He's doing it too much. He's worrying about where the ball is going instead of where he should be to get it. Edmund screwed with him by setting up plenty of backhands when Shapo ran to his forehand side.

how do any of you know Shap got AA vs Edmund?

anyway, Edmund slapped Shap for the first set, hopefully he can keep it up.

It's absolutely a disgrace. No HC should ever play like quicksand. The difference in the USO court speed now and 20 years ago is shocking. In Pete and Andre's day it played fast. Now it might as well be clay. Sickening.
 
Shapo's looking a bit flat. He needs to get pumped up with a few good shots. The ball is playing so heavy and Denis does better when he's trying to slay a big dragon.
 
Nice baseline shot. Edmund surprised and hits a bad shot. Perfect set up for Shapo.

Shapo comes back from love-30 down. Now looking for the break.
