Sharapova: crowd favourite?

Watching sharapova's matches in Paris, and her Wimbledon match today. I was struck by how the spectators seemed, not disinterested, but not really warming to her. I appreciate the crowd generally root for the under-dog, and also if a person dominates for years at a time (Navratilova springs to mind). But sharapova hasn't. I'm interested to hear other opinions- I'm not saying I'm right, but it us my view.

I think you may be right. I think it may be a couple of factors. One, her constant and unnecesary shrieking does turn a lot of people off. Second, while I ovbiously have not met her, the glimpses off her personality don't radiate a great deal of friendliness or warmth. Third, she doesn't really have a "home court" advantage. She was born in Russia (or one of the former Soviet Union States) and has, from time to time, played on the Russian Fed Cup team. However, she spent much of her childhood in the States, but isn't really an American either.

She shrieks with a passion, but has a very cold demeanor.

Sharapova was killing her apponent. The reason why they were rooting for the underdog because they want to see more tennis. Of course the fans are not excited because it wasn't competitive but a lopsided score.

I did not specifically mean the match today which is why I mentioned the French where she played to the end. Her reception is nothing similar to that given to Kim for example.
