USTA Sectional 3rd Round vs Wisconsin

Didn’t pick up a racket for close to two weeks leading up to this USTA sectional match 3rd round against Wisconsin in NTRP 9.0 mixed doubles. On top of that, I switched to a one handed backhand just because I felt like it for some reason. Needless to say, i thought it went pretty well and felt pretty good. Played with a former Amherst college player for the first time. Pretty loud and rowdy round but i definitely loved the atmosphere. I know a lot of people would get annoyed by all the noise but I love it. What do you guys think?

Are you blue shirt guy? I am guessing You're a great player, love the depth on the groundies, but you are too good to fist pump and "yeah" when the opponent makes an unforced error, be more selective on that.

Do you think you are getting a huge benefit from your split step on return of serve?

I had to stop watching after the first game, the celebrations after every point in his favor were too much.

I appreciate your reply but I respectfully disagree. Especially in team tennis and doubles, energy is so underrated. Personally, if I'm flat in terms of energy levels, I don't play well = not 100% effort. If I'm playing a match, I want to put in 110% effort otherwise I feel like it would be rude for the other person. I've always said, I leave it all on the court. Doesn't matter what level I'm playing. It also helps when the team wants to win, I'm just happy to contribute. While yes, I do get yelled at from the opposite team from time to time, it's not my intention to upset them. I'm just giving it full effort. I don't yell back, all the drama stays on the court and I'd love to have a meal with them afterwards. Another observation is that when I play tournaments, I don't get into any drama from my energy. Actually, more players are like that but in league tennis, that's where I find myself get in trouble.

I don't really think about split stepping on return of serve. It just happens. Probably because I grew up coached like that.

Hey, I've had to work on my attitude on court and I've become a better player as far as atmosphere by listening a little bit to others. Your energy is great, just take a step back and think about not fist pumping if the opponent dumps a routine ball into the net, trust me. Your energy will remain high if you fist bump your doubles partner or jump up and down before the next point. Flexing your arm and "come on" when really the point was an unforced error isn't part of giving 100% effort.

Your opponent's wrist action is one of the most distracting things I've seen on a tennis court. Almost as distracting as whatever animal was in the background of this match. Nice serving though, and like was already mentioned, nice groundstroke clearance and depth, also, nice job not going for winners when there was no reason to...that's a solid mental plan.

The amount of unnecessary energy your opponent expounds every point between the unnecessary movement on each shot and the talking and whatever mental game he's playing is exhausting. What was the score?

This is definitely one of those, do I be truthful or is this pointless oversharing, moments. But I think I'll be honest. I played this match while pretty darn hungover. I was visiting an old , college friend the previous night and well, one cocktail became 3, plus a couple margaritas in a can from the fridge and the last couple hours were a blur and I wake up on his couch at 5am and the rooms still spinning. Cut to 4pm the same day and I'm on a tennis court with a mighty headache having hardly eaten anything all day.

But I still managed to play pretty well, maybe it was the opponent... he is just getting back into tennis after being out for about a decade after leaving high school. Apparently he played all 4 years in HS, then stopped entirely, only getting back into playing in the last month or so. So he's rusty. And I kinda started toying with him a bit at parts. Besides my serve sporadically leaving me for a couple service games, I couldn't hardly put a shot wrong.

Thanks for posting. Of all the videos you post, I think that was worse opponent, that guy stinks.

yeah he wasn't good, though his serve at 6:43 was the best serve either of us hit the whole match. Flat, hard, and smack on the outside line, would have aced most everybody I think.

After doing well in playoff/championship season, I think this match was the first match for the new season for 2023. I could be wrong as I don't really pay attention to how league tennis works. When they say to play, I play. Anyways, played against a new team formed by a close friend and former teammate. Safe to say it was good seeing them but also felt sad that we weren't on the same team anymore. Rough/slow start to this match as I stopped playing consistently around this time due to enrolling in grad school, pursuing an MBA. Hopefully after finishing this program, I can practice and compete again on a traveling level.

Kudos for not losing focus in this one, I tend to just drift off mentally if points come that easy.

I'd gladly play mixed if it was this level.

First time I got called to play in a NTRP 7.5 combo mixed doubles league match. To this day, this was my first and last match at this level, for now. It was nice to step down half a level and just have fun and play. One of my opponents, as you’ll see in the footage, had a unique game. To be honest, I was inspired and motivated by this person throughout this match. I was reminded that anyone can play the sport no matter what difficulties they face. Even though we lost this match, I actually had a lot of fun just playing instead of competing and being on high energy. I usually play Tri-Level, 8.0, 9.0 mixed, and Men’s Open level tournaments. This was a nice change up.

Always an honor playing with the doubles partner you went to nationals with. Before this match, he actually haven’t touched a racket in weeks, maybe months. Needless to say, he came out firing. My return game in the second set sucked. Maybe I got too comfortable, or not used to the racket yet. Otherwise I thought we played good as usual, we’re both still super competitive, and gave a lot of energy for our team. Fortunately as a team, we came out on top!

Played a tough match against a really good pair from a rival league team. This was one of the very few dual matches where we got swept. I played at the #1 spot and was a bad day for me in terms of my tennis. I really felt bad for my partner as I was dragging her down when she was on top of her game. Regardless too good from our opponents this day.

quick set between one of my friends and I. The sun was in such a bad spot that we switched every game to serve from one side of the court :-D

We miscounted the score as well. We thought we ended at 6-3, but we actually only played 7 games (5-2). The scoring is not 100% accurate for each point, but will always end up reaching the correct end score. It was done through swingvision AI, so it didnt take me any time to add or edit into the video. Super great feature for someone like me. It takes me no time at all to record and upload these matches.

Broke my left wrist so forearm was in plaster a while ago. As a right hander I couldn't toss the serve ball with my left arm so tried what this young lady was doing with very limited success. She is indeed inspirational.

Another late night, another match. Played against some friends who are a couple and they play really well together. I’ve played against this exact pair before but with a different partner. We got lucky this time around as I thought my partner and I were playing well and I knew what we were up against so I was able to come up with some plans. Although in straight sets, you can see that this match was pretty long.

Another 8.0 mixed doubles league match. I believe this was still early in the league season so we were playing against some newer teams including this dual match. As a team we won 3-0, one match included a 20 minute 6-0, 6-0 win. On my court at #2, I paired up with someone new/don’t know her game too well. Fortunately, I thought we played well. At the time of the video, i was still getting used to the pure drive plus and semiwestern forehand grip. My previous racket was the pure aero plus and a western forehand grip. Good tune up match.

He's got good footwork and a nice base to build on, solid 4.0. Why "Yoga Fire"? Did he start tennis in 2019 or USTA? If this is his 3rd ish year playing tennis, wow.

Why "Yoga Fire"?
He streams Street Fighter on YouTube when he isn't playing tennis

Did he start tennis in 2019 or USTA?
He started USTA in 2019. Got 2 years of high school tennis in Japan

When we met the first time, neither of us could volley whatsoever so we decided to play doubles together to help our singles game

Self-rated 4.0s having social yet competitive play. One of my favourite hitting partners as our games are always competitive. He edges in the head-to-head as he’s more consistent, always makes me hit another shot, and has better shot tolerance on backhands. Highlights from our session today which was good despite the damp court conditions. I lost 4-6 4-6 and am in the black top.

Some USTA Tri Level league tennis match play at the men’s NTRP 4.0 doubles line. Our team actually lost the match up against this team in our previous meeting. Fortunately, we came out on top this time around as their lineup was different compared to last time as availability issues. I was half asleep as this match was played fairly early on Sunday morning and this club was about 45 min to an hour away from where I live and I get there an hour early to stretch and try to wake up. Despite all that, I thought I played decently well and my partner carried me as he was playing well.

Watched all your group progress and always seem to have good, fun matches. Last I saw there was a redhead girl in the mix and actually her court IQ and hands were best on court the match I watched. Good mix of players overall.

I think it was one she had shorts because I think I remember she had a leg tat or such, but the one above is good stuff too. Just really smart in moving without the ball to position for plays, and like I said great hands and athletic skills. Probably a past athlete?

Anyway, cheers. Ya'll have some fun point play for sure.

Some USTA NTRP 9.0 combo #3 mixed doubles tennis league match play. As you’ll see in the video, not only were my partner and I not playing well, but we didn’t have any answers for our opponents who were playing very well. A lot of ups and downs throughout the 2nd and 3rd set super tiebreaker. We were able to break back after getting broken early in the second set and maintained our serves. Unfortunately, I rolled my ankle badly towards the end of the 2nd set and had to take a medical time out, sit down, and strap on ankle braces to finish the match. We could’ve retired and let my ankle rest but for some reason, I wanted to keep going and grind to get the win. Knowing this was going to be my last match for the season/year, i didn’t want to end it on a low note either.

Another practice match to get Luc ready for Sectionals. Started a bit slower for me and ended tweaking something at 5/6 first set, but still played out some decent points. Working on some different shots for the day, especially more directed volleys and slices. Luc was over most, but made for good practice. And really short points this matches where we normally grind.

Had the great privilege and honor to collaborate with The United States Tennis Association (USTA) and was allowed to film matches for the 2022 USTA ******* Tri Level Sectional Tournament again. Unfortunately for me, I was injured and could not play in this tournament. However, I did my best to support my team by being there, recording matches, and brought my ProStringer (reach out to me for discount ;)) electric stringing machine incase of emergency stringing (good thing I did as two players needed restringing). In the first round, we played against a Northeast Ohio team. Going into this match, we were automatically up by one point as they defaulted their 3.5 court as their players couldn't make the trip down to Homewood, Illinois.

2nd round at the USTA ******* Sectional tournament for the Tri-Level league. This time, it was us (Illinois) against Ohio Valley. This was actually the rematch of last year’s final. Ohio Valley returned a majority of their players while we recruited some newer players while also substituting for injured players (including me :[). All three courts went to the deciding third set. It could’ve gone either way but Ohio Valley came out on top. Unfortunate, but that’s also part of the game. They are a friendly rival of ours and we always enjoy playing against them. Enjoy this footage from our Men’s NTRP 4.5 flight.

Nice 1 handers when you get your body behind it. Luc sounds like he is in pain when he hits sometimes.
