Now that I'm a lot more mobile and starting to get active again, I'm able to go to more matches and take pictures and record. My general stamina is slowly coming back together so I'm able to spend more time outdoors and video/photo edit. This match is mixed doubles NTRP 9.0 Combo!

It was Tenex night tonight. What do you mean that's not a real thing? I'm in the green shirt, playing some 'King of the Court' points against some college kids. Using a racket from the 80s from Tenex.

Some USTA 3.5 Singles Match Play. Around shooting this time, I was healthy enough to hit the ball. I recently got cleared to get back onto court and start training again. Hoping to travel and play tournaments again in January 2025. In the meantime, I will eventually vlog about my recovery process and what I've been up to.

My attempts to serve and volley in singles.

I’m on a quest to demo/try every extended racket out there

Some 9.5 dubs practice. Guys in the black shirts and darker shorts are the 5.0c and blue shirt and teal shorts (me) are 4.5c

Trying to work out the SwingVision algorithm. You can hit a normal serve into the court and it registers 70mph, then hit the identical serve but into the net and it registers around 35mph. There must be some sort of algorithm that considers the moment when the opponent moves away from their original position as the end of the shot, rather than what's actually happening with the ball.

Finally got some doubles footage. Currently recording with an older iphone xs I don't care if it gets smashed, and a moment wide lens adapter, is a cheapo amazon action cam or used Go Pro on fbm better? Looks blurry for 1080p. I don't want to spend more than $60 ish that might get smashed. Anyone film with an iphone 13 pro? Relative might give me this after they get the 16 pro, or is any cheapo action cam better than iphone for sports recording?

2nd time I played this guy. Some good points here. I took the first set 6/1 quick, and then a sprayed a few too many errors to start the 2nd, going down 1/4. I had to really fight to get back in it.

I'm the guy in orange.

Are you the same guy in the 9.0 mixed video? Did you get knocked down to 3.5 w/ medical appeal? When did the injury happen?

No, wrong guy haha. im not playing due to achilles rupture at start of the year. I'll be back on court soon, however, so keep an eye out for my matches

Shoot sorry to hear that. I hope you can recover. Are you keeping same rating or will they let you drop. I can’t imagine yoy will be moving near as well…

Thank you! I really appreciate it. I see the foot doctor tomorrow so hopefully I can get back to training asap.

I honestly haven't thought about it. I don't think my opponents around the area would be happy with me playing down though haha. I usually don't pay any attention to ratings. I'm mainly a tournament player so I only like to get inspiration from my ranking and ranking points.

Started off hot. Played pretty well for having come back from minor surgery last week. But felt a bit fatigued at the end and lost it in a match breaker... But there's some real good points in here.

I'm in black/red and swinging my trusty Adidas Barricade racket.

Some very nice serves!

Good stuff! Do you have any ratings?

besides USTA 4.0? No. I don't have a UTR and honestly I'm in 2 leagues already (USTA and NightOwls, which is a local 4.0-4.5 singles league) and also hit regularly with a group of older guys at the park so my schedule is already pretty full with tennis.

speaking of Nightowls, here's my most recent match there. I'm in the black with white shorts. Using a Wilson Hyper Prostaff 5.0. The guy was older but still had played in 4.0 USTA recently.

I have mixed feelings about posting this bc my friend didn't want it publicly available and so Jai/@MyFearHand just published it privately (that's him sitting courtside). But my friend stopped talking to me a year ago and I just rediscovered this video. This is the guy I used to play with a lot, was a 5.0 until he got injured and is probably a 4.5 in this video. Played at a winning d3 school. In fairness he had just played a tough 5-7 with Jai right before this set

I do some things differently now but there's more on display shots-wise than in my matches with Jai, because this guy gives me a little more time/rhythm even though he hits noticeably harder

@optic yellow there's a couple 1HBH in the first two games for ya. At 1:10 there is a 17-shot rally with an desperation half volley BH a few feet inside the baseline and a 1H flat/flick lob. At 2:20 drive 1HBH winner

Served at 5-2 for this match I believe and then collapsed when he switched strategies and stopped going big, lost 7-5.

Hey, I recognize those courts! This is Lake Newport! We played there for the Asian Games Team Tennis Tournament. I liked all the shade. We played there and at Hook Rd.

Well I'm still very sad about it

Nothing about the backhands? Lmao
I was moving house man I did not have time for anything but one sentence truth drops. Still recovering (see: slept 12hr today) but I'll get to it soon. I will admit also watching people play tennis when life is preventing me from even thinking about it can be a bit difficult :'(

Dang haha sorry I was just trying to be funny, had no idea

Decided to use one of my most heavy rackets and the result was this crazy match. Using a 1981 Pro Kennex Black Ace, I'm in the yellow shirt.

I am ADD and watched the whole thing

Liked your lob retrieval and OH. Rewatched the point that ended at 5:30. Very nice stuff

Obviously not my strongest match in terms of level but I did improvise a few magical moments like that reverse drop shot.

And I clutched the hell out of that match point after almost giving the whole thing away lol.

Yeah the MP was very nice, perfect inside-out. And "Reverse drop shot", that's a good way to put it. I hit those in similar situations but mine go CC with tons of sidespin, I would like to add the DTL like you did there

I don’t believe I’ve ever hit as many winners in a match before. 41 (according to SwingVision), which was 25% of total points played! Started strong then started to rush through points in the 2nd set, committing more errors… Did well to stay in the 2nd set, only to throw it all away in the tiebreaker… Thankful I managed to pull myself together in the final 3rd set super tiebreak ☺️

Opponent had a unique “reverse” serve that gave me trouble on the ad side, but over the course of the match, became way too predictable and lacked pace, especially on second serves. He had great touch and a pacey flat FH too.

I’m in white shorts.

What do y'all think of the out call made at 08:30?
this is a location where the call is notoriously difficult to make for the person standing right over the ball. should give the benefit of the doubt to the opponent there, but most don't. I have overruled my partner on a call like that because it was clearly in from my vantage point, but my partner was sure it was out. Also, I think the type of call that gets challenged the most in the pros (or used to) in which they were usually wrong, but at the time felt they were 100% right or they would not have challenged it.

First serve hit the ground before it hit his racquet....second serve was long.

Oh wow
Eyes
! My partner and I never noticed how close it was to hitting his racquet.

Entertaining match where I had to use two very different rackets. Racket #1 Pro Kennex Boron Ace (1985) an #2 Wilson Hyper Pro Staff 5.0 (1999)
I'm the one in shorts.

No better way to start Christmas Day than tennis at 6am, against an exhausting player!

Separate thread to discuss strategies against defensive, high percentage play players here.

Starting off 2025 with a win. Played with my Prostaff 6.1si for the first time in a while too. I'm in the black/yellow with the orange strings.

Is the fence mount a better view than behind the baseline?

I used to do the fence mount and a 1 in 10,000 event happened where the phone got knocked off.
