SHOCKING: Hingis and Sharapova practice session...

I read that Hingis and Sharapova had a practice session this summer just before the US Open. Hingis and Sharapova were playing a practice set. Hingis won 6-0! No wonder she wants to come back! Apparently Sharapova was ripping the ball, and Hingis was playing her game. Utilizing lots of drop shots!

This is merely a publicity stunt to hype Martina's comeback.

Yeah, and JohnnyMac had a golden set against Fedex this past week that convinced him to return to the ATP tour.

I'm pretty sure it's legit. This is coming from a guy whose coach works with different pros. I'll see if I can find it....

I don't know why this is shocking. Sharapova has along way to go before being compared to Hingis. Hingis gets no respect for her 6 slam titles. Because Hingis does not serve 110 MPH she seems to get no respect. She is a great competitor and has a better strategy than todays women players. The wta will get a wake up call in 06.

I could see it happening. Sharapova is all mindless bashing, and I'll take Hingis' brains over Maria's brawn any day. If Hingis puts her mind do it, there is no limits to how far she can go on her comeback.

This should certainly get some Silly Post Of The Month votes - unsubstantiated (someone, who knows someone, who's a pro) chatter about PRACTICE - Allen Iverson was right.

Yea. Practice matches and REAL matches are COMPLETLY different.
Yeah, I've heard that's pretty much the norm, the up-and-coming player with something to prove usually wins the practice matches against the more established players. Sampras was notorious for losing just about all his practice matches in Davis Cup. Safin said something about normally the junior or lesser player ends up winning practice matches, they just can't do it in a tournament.

It makes sense. A practice match with no real pressure, and you have something to prove, whereas the more established player probably really doesn't care. They may be working on this or that, but they have bigger things to worry about.

Hell if Hingis returns as half the player she was she will wipe out the whole womens tour that was just pathetic this year, truely sad.

I really thought Venus had got her act together, suprise!

Sarena took a dive like a contestant from The Biggest Loser in a pastry factory

The Shrimp aka Sharapova lost every time she faced a worth opponet before the final, she just sees to always get a luck draw.

Justine was just running out of gas or something, just not up to usual amazing self.

Davenport continues to choke

Pierce continues her antics and BS

Clijsters is the only girl with a real game besides Justine, so we will see.

I agree. I saw Hingis' matches live, years ago, and although she doesn't have a huge serve she can strike with power on her groundstrokes. She often chooses to mix up the pace and spins and not hit consistently hard but she can generate power. The commentators like to say that she was outgunned by stronger opponents but that is simply not true. She was a step slower, most likely due to her foot/ankle injuries, which is why she was unable to run down the power shots. Martina Hingis, when healthy, has no trouble handling power coming at her. The television commentators like to categorize players, pigeon-holing them into power players, finesse players... I saw Hingis combine finesse and power plenty of times. Henin-Hardenne is a lot like Hingis but with a faster serve than Martina. She has a similar but more agressive, risky game with a bigger serve.
