Shoes for Hard Court Sliding

Does anyone have any suggestions for tennis shoes that have slicker outsoles for hardcourt sliding? I currently wear the Asics Court FF2 and they are great, but I am just looking for additional suggestions to keep my shoe range open. Thanks!

For sliding, do not get New Balance. Their outsoles are pretty sticky. TW reviews also say so.
I’ve been using the Head Revolt line for a couple years and they allow me to slide pretty well. However the medial protection (Drift Defense) is not enough for me.

The Nike cage 3/4 both work for sliding, however for my footwork I don’t depend on sliding, however when I have they worked. The vapor x also works well, it has a pretty slick outsole, which is nice, however not very durable.

I remember, last year, one shoe manufacturer was going to come out with some hard court sliding shoes. Does anyone else remember that?

Are you talking about those Wilson Glide shoes?

Probably so. I have not read anymore about them except when they were talking about bringing them out. Sounded like some real ankle turners to me. TY for remembering the name of them.

Those shoes are really old, IMO it’s not a good idea to make a shoe purposefully slick. If you look at the outsole, there’s a part that’s like purposefully just not grippy, which makes you be able to “slide” easier. However, barricades have amazing traction and Djoker and many others have slid in them, so to sum up my rambling I don’t recommend the Wilson glide lol.

The Wilson Glides seemed like a good idea, I looked into them. What many did not know is once you purchased them they came with training instructions as it was highly recommended to not just go out and try sliding. They recommended drills and practice to get comfortable with the motion and process. I do wish I gave them a try though.

I think while many of us see the pros sliding around hard courts please realize that most (if not all) not playing at that level do not have the strength/skills to regularly slide and not get injured. I have slid on hardcourt (not always intentionally) a few times and I felt lucky not to roll and ankle or injure my knees as it is hard on a body that is not to the level of the pros.

Quick Conclusion: Yeah it's cool to slide on hard court but is very risky and can cause injury just like we can't play as much or hit as hard as the pros. They train hard every day to be at that level so let's be realistic all.

Forget the shoes make sure your ankles and knees can take it! :-D I'm an older player at 43 and have not slide much on hard as I think it does take practice to execute correctly and safely.

If anyone has drills to help this please share them.

Thank you.

What are the slickest shoes out there? Not “slick shoes” like in the Goonies - shoes that have soles that are good for sliding yet still support the ankle. My fav current shoe is the zoom zero. But I have been wearing my cage 3’s when executing “operation slide by end of summer”. The Ubersonic 3 was slick but didn’t care for the shoe otherwise. The zoom zero is great but maybe too grippy or sit too high to slide - but pros slide in the zz no problem, I haven’t tried sliding in them yet. The cage 3’s were my favorite but now gone. Cage 4 was too unstable, gel res 8 too wide.

Maybe vapor x? Doesn’t have much upper durability but if that isn’t a problem the shoe is alright.

sole durability more of a problem here
Well they won’t keep the pattern very long, and they aren’t comparable to say, a barricade or cage or gel resolution. However I have had a pair I’ve worn for multiple tournaments and it hasn’t gotten a hole through the rubber, but the pattern has disappeared except for some little Nubs in the heel and forefoot.

Ok so I have been working on the slide and kind of made a breakthrough of sorts. With regard to the zoom zero, i take my earlier estimation of the zz’s away - I was sliding every which way and twice on Tuesday with them. Granted it’s not the prettiest slide (my back foot is still not acting right) and my timing is off as I approach the ball (starting the slide way too late lol), but the zoom zeros are fine. I will say these things are now toast! I was going through shoes at the rate of a pair every month or month and a half, now it’s going to be worse!

you people are crazy. Find some clay courts for gods sake. its not just your ankles and knees you need to worry about. Your going to end up needing hip replacements and back surgery. Your essentially trying to force soft rubber over sandpaper.

adidas shoes are good

ASICS COURT FF2 & Gel Res
I second this. I haven’t tried the FF2 because of that price point but I have a pair of GR8’s and they are nice. The traction definitely is not rip your knees out of their sockets, it’s a nice soft bite that has a nice give.

well I slide alot on barricade 7/Novak then i switched to Gel Res 7 for 2 years , then i switched to FF2 , in between tried Sole Court , Vapor X , Speed FF ...
After wearing those got my FF2 again , i feel like sliding on Ice lol

Hardcourts are not for sliding.

Djokovic is going to be responsible for a whole generation of rec players ruining their bodies.

I sure hope hip replacement surgeries are not an elective proceedure in 20-30 years LOL. Anyone seen Chang move lately

Anyone have an updated list of slicker shoes to try? I like the fit in the toe box of New Balance Lav's, but the snugness and sliding I get out of my Cage 3s... Had my eyes on FF2s and Barricades but the latter I used to get crazy arch pains not sure if they've changed to the formula in the updated version.

For me the original Asics Court FF was the best hard Court sliding shoe. It did wear a lot faster then most shoes but for me they were the GOAT. I could move in them like driving a Ferrari or Porsche. Only if I stocked up on them. I then tried the FF2s. They are still very good for sliding but I ended up selling them after a few sessions. I didn't like the uppers as much and the overall fit was not as enjoyable. I since have moved on to the Nike Cage 4s. I can slide in them but nothing like the Asics. They feel heavey and a little clunky but the durability is off the charts. My knees and joints love the Cage 4s.

oh interesting you had joint pains with the FF and FF2s?

I didn't have joint or knee pain with ffs when they were fresh. But I played in them too long with the insole or some parts of the shoe blown out. I have been able to play in the cage 4s for way more time with no issues. My tread is wearing out which has made it easier to slide but the insole and cushioning is still fantastic. I have one brand new pair of cage 4s still in the box. I thought I was going to need to use them to start the spring but so far they are still great.
