Shoes for wide feet in 2021

I recently got some K-Swiss BigShot light 3's and have been happy that they are a wider fit, more so than the Hypercourts that I tried on at the same time

I think type of arch is under-considered in the fit of shoes. I have fairly wide feet - do not need wide widths but cannot wear narrow running shoes - but high arches. I think this is why the GR-8s - do not fit perfectly although the original Court FFs did.

The New Balance Lav's were the worst and actually damaged my feet. I am trying the KSwiss Hypercourt Express 2's

Arch in the original Court FFs was lacking too, for my high arch at least, but was so good in all areas I forgave it and sometimes compensated with a superfeet insole or something.

In Wide Foot news: the tennis foot doctor guy says the new Speed FF2s accommodate a 2E (although he also says he can fit his 2E into a Lotto Raptor, so I don't know what to think about his width views anymore). And: according to the rep who appears on Tennis Spin's latest video, KSwiss is going to offer wide width versions of their shoes this year, like New Balance. Yes I've been watching too much Tennis YouTube.

Let's get a list together of ideally current model tennis shoes that are a good fit for a wider foot (without wide specific sizes which are mostly unavailable outside of North America)

- K-SWISS Hypercourt Express 2
- K-SWISS Hypercourt Supreme 2
- Adidas SoleCourt Boost
- Prince T22

SFX is so wide I had to go down a half size. But I dont have a wide foot. So damn comfy.

The SFX3 is my favorite wide shoe at the moment.

I have a 2E foot (actually wide more than high volume) with a wide toe spread. I can play for hours without foot pain in the SFX, though eventually my small toes rip out the sides of the shoes.

The SFX is not a heavy support type shoe. It is a lightweight shoe that actually feels rather soft compared to many of the competitors' products. Some of the K-Swiss products are good for 2E feet, but I find that I get heel problems around the ankles. The K-swiss shoes tend to rip up my socks around the ankles, so they obviously aren't locking in my heels.

Ever open up the shoe for your toes? Just remove your feet first

I have a wide-ish forefoot and the Gel Resolutions 8 fit me well. Might not be for everyone tho.

Tried them on at the shop. Although fit is wide, I felt like I was standing high in them and the sole was not wide enough. It feels as if it's very easy to roll the ankle in them. That's my second consideration for shoes besides fit is how wide the sole is. Nike Vapors, Adidas Barricades and the K-Swiss Hypercourts have this notch on the side which I feel prevents rolling. The GR8s don't have that...

The Hypercourt Express 2 is my current go to shoe.

SFX/SFX3, are these a current model of Babolat? I can only find odd sizes / colors around the shops in EU.

Only once. I noticed that Jimmy Connors used to sometimes cut open his leather shoes at the little toe, so I'm not the first person with that problem.
BITD, the 70s it was hard to find shoes with a big open toebox. Learned to cut those tight uppers back then. Shoulda just used a shoe stretcher like any woman,

I do this with my running shoes from time to time. I usually order running shoes from the US and just pay the extra import duty when they get to me in Europe. Seems as though nobody in the EU understands about different widths in shoes. If I buy shoes here I slice them open to give myself enough room.

That is how this started for my neighbor. In HS he ran long distance and there were not a lot of options. He tried to stuff Fred or Barney's feet into a pr of British running shoes. Coach suggested a modification. Never had that problem with canvas tennis shoes. Wore so badly that the soles were toast in a month. Until the Bata shoe. And Lavers

To add a little more fun to the wide shoe search: any wide fitting shoes that *do not* have a fabric upper?
My feet destroy these fabric style uppers in a few weeks of daily play.

Seems there's a "stigma" attached to recommending NB for wide shoes - the whole image of the weekend hacker, dad bod, tenns elbow brace, Gamma Big Bubba. But for a wide-foot, heavier player - the NB 1006 2E is much better cushion than the T22 or the KSwiss models.
NB 1006 vs Babolat SFX 3 - the bridge supporting the arch in the SFX3 isn't as supportive. But the SFX 3, imho, is a less hot shoe in the summer.
Some pro shops in my area carry the Wilson Pro Staff Classic - the same model from the late 80s-early 90s - and they are just as wide as the 1006 2E.
Yes, I do look like that dad bod player with my Walmart Russell shirt (that I only paid 8 dollars for), Champion shorts, NBs and my Dunkin Donuts coffee (in the morning) - but opinions change quickly after warmups.

Wore the NB 1006 & SFX3. Never wore a hole in either, just wore the soles smooth. Neither were as supportive as an Adidas shoe. Kind of high priced casual shoes. Retail price is high, paid $50 for the SFX and $35 for the 1006.

Whilst I really appreciate the suggestions, I play on clay and I found it impossible to locate any Prince T22, NB or SFX3 in size 12 clay sole (any color).

A shoe that comfortably fits a wide foot, with clay herringbone sole pattern and no flexy flimsy upper fabric that breaks after 2 weeks... (ie 2015 Barricades, Gel Resolution 7s) .. am I asking too much?

SCB not wide enough?

If you want to try these and let us know how they go.....

Edit: Actually, I just bought a pair :)

The Diadora Blushield 4 and Blushield Fly 2 are wide fitting - with plenty of room in the toe box.
They come with clay specific soles and, ime, are indestructible.

They are wide, but I'm concerned about the upper flexible fabric. In my experience with tennis shoes, this type of fabric tears very quickly on clay.. 2-3 weeks tops.
I guess I have to try them and burn €135.
I don't slide in the courts but I have 2 pairs for more than a year and they are brand new.Quality is excellent as far as I'm concerned!

How often do you play? I hit 5x a week for 2h and this is how my shoes look like after one match

* PS Not me, Mr Shapovalov, but an accurate of example of how the shoes look like....you can almost see the fabric start to give on the side toes...

Great response. I am a NB fan and have been wearing their shoes since they were in Watertown MA. As far as tennis shoes , I agree that their soles get chewed up on hard courts. Clay is a different story -?they last indefinitely. In any event, they are comfortable, unlike most of the other manufacturers whose shoes have overly rigid heel counters and put hard plastic right where your foot is supposed to flex. As far as support, I use orthotics and the shoes are deep enough to accommodate them. Bottom line - i will gladly pay for comfort.

I play half that time.So if we make the math they are good for over half a year. That's good enough for me!

I just started playing in Fila Axilus 2 Energized, and while I wouldn't say they are specifically a wide shoe, they are a fair amount wider than my Gel Resolutions.

this sounds like me. tried the hypercourt, but the mesh body has a bit too much flexibility, so my foot would slide around inside the shoe, particulalry in the toe-box. also the arch in the hypercourt is not as high as the kswiss ultrashot. i moved to the ultrashot 2 when it came out ~3 years ago and that's the only shoe i buy now. i also wear two pairs of socks -- a thin cotton anklet inner, and thorlo outer (thickest thorlos available). feet are not locked in nicely and no sliding inside the shoe.

There is the Nike Air Monarch in 6E. Or the Nike box

unfortunately, neither my local tennis shop nor the big box sporting good store ever has wide sizes in stock

:-D I never thought about trying the nike box though. that's a good idea, maybe the box will be wide enough! haha :)

Played dubs with a guy who wore Air Monarchs while playing on clay. Moved well, musta been the shoes

Had the Hypercourt's for about 6 weeks and did not have that issue with the flexibility at first but now have the soles are fading fast.

Had heard reports of the Ultrashot rubbing the top of people with high arches' feet - much like the Lav's did to me so I was very hesitant to try them

Wanted to try those for awhile when I found out about a wider fit and I also like the look (of the white/blue fronts) - but have also heard they can be fairly uncomfy underfoot with very little cushioning? True? And how's the arch?

Arch seems fine, not too high or too low. They aren't as cushioned as my GRs, but aren't bad. But so far I've only played 1.5 hours on clay and 1.5 on hard court. I wasn't planning on using them on clay, but my normal Thursday hard court match got moved to a clay court (hartru). They actually fared well on the clay, they do have a bit of a herringbone pattern, but nowhere near as much as my clay Speed Solutions.
