Shoes: Quantity or Quality (Durability-wise)

As titled. I was looking into Barricades for their durability, but they are so expensive that I could get 2 pairs of cheaper shoes for that price! Are Barricades and other expensive durability-guaranteed shoes really twice as durable as the cheaper, no durability-guarantee shoes?

Tennis shoes seem to last me 3 months, and the last 3 weeks of that are somewhat iffy. I like a lot of the pluses of the more expensive shoes, and I will only buy the ones with the durability guarantee, so the way I see it; I can pay 50-70 bucks for shoes that are not all that great and can replace them in 3 months (at full price), or I can buy top of the line shoes for around 100-120 dollars (cages/barricades, etc) and have a top of the line replacement or voucher sent to me in 3 months.

But if you are really budget minded there are some 40-80 buck shoes that are pretty awesome and also have a warranty, thus getting a little of both benefits.

So I guess it is really a matter of if you wear out shoes quickly or not.

What pair of shoes are you looking at for $35? (I pay $70 for my barricades). I mean, I could get some converse canvas knockoffs for $19, but the blisters and ankle slips would eventually keep me off the court.

I bought BFIIs and am happy I got the guarantee because I have already worn through a good part of the treads still got some rubber to go through though.

The Wilson Challenge II's are $40. They're on sale at TW.

Quality is always going to work more in your favor than quantity. A good quality shoe will be more comfortable, better design and made from better materials.

I say, never go cheap with health. A 11 oz+ racket and good tennis shoes are the two most important elements to keep yourself in the game for a long time.

Babb:

Have you ever worn the The Wilson Challenge II's???? I have wide feet and like wearing light shoes. I currently wear the Yonex 304's (which are discontinued) and am looking for something similar.

Personally, due to finicky feet, I wear the more expensive shoes. It's a small concession for being able to walk pain free after playing hard 3-4 days in a row.

Durability Guarantee

Can someone explain how this works? Do most of the companies operate on a voucher system? I have to imagine that the wear guarantee is on a prorated basis -- I am not going to get a brand new pair of shoes at no cost just because they don't last for a specific period of time, right? TIA.

Nope :( . Sorry.

An update-- I'm going to order some Adidas Barricade IIs. Quality, durability, and they're somewhat affordable.

^^^^
SUP JORDAN?! Haha.

Another update-- I'm sticking with the tried and true Wilson Trance All Courts. In another fifteen minutes I'll give another update on what shoes I might order at that moment. But seriously this time. Lol.

Trance all court is a great shoes, my friend and i buy shoes at the same time, he gets some prince (dont know the model) i get the wilson, i run a lot more than him in court, and my shoes have minor wear marks, but his have deeper marks.

Next time i'll get barricade not cause the wilson are bad, just cause barricades are the best hard court shoe ever made, and i play hard court. ... ohhhhh and all my clothes is adidas to :D

I'm budget limited, any shoe name that I should look for ? I play on hard courts.

If I were you, I would drop the 100 or so and get some Barricades or BF2's. It's pretty much 50 dollars a pair. So if you look at it, you could buy some 50 dollar shoes, wear them out, and buy another pair of 50 dollar shoes. Or you could buy some barricades, wear them out (which will take at least 2 - 3 months), then get a brand new pair.

Even if you wear the barricades out in the same amount of time you would wear a $50 pair out, you still get better quality shoes for the same price. I believe BIV's are on sale for 90 now, and when you send them in, you get BV's.

hey i was just wondering, what NTRP level do you think i am?

Just a shot in the dark, really, since I myself have never been officially rated, but I'd guess 3.5? I'm really not sure.

BTW, anything but official ratings mean nothing here...

If you have quality. Then you don't have to worry about quantity. But if you are lucky to find "the" pair, then I guess grabbing a few pairs wouldn't hurt..

But if you are fan boy with too much (or money you really shouldn't be spending) and buying a bunch of shoes cause Fed wears them. Then that is an issue best discussed with your local doctor..

For me. I only wear asics to play tennis, because I find they always over excede my expectations, and I am always comenting to others that they are comfortable and probably too well made for the price..

I would say durability for the shoe you love. quantity for all the awful shoes i've got over the years and regretted.

durability is useful because with gel insoles you can give the innards a new lease of life - as long as the sole grips and the interior structure continues to give heel, arch and ball support.
