Shorts that are not too expensive?

Hate spending $50+ on shorts. Any brands out there that click all the boxes for tennis? Especially pockets?

Thanks in advance.

Check out Ross Dress for less. They have quite a bit when in season.
I get drywick 7in inseam shorts from cheap brands. May not find the colors or quality you'd like

Ross or Marshalls. Good will also sells used clothing so if you hunt for racquets there, don’t forget to check out the clothes racks.

Fila has some poly tennis shorts that are often on sale for about $25 on TW. Black and white only. White is a little thin, so don't wear black/colored underwear underneath.

drawstring waist, decent pockets. last fine. I have several pairs and some are over 2 years old and still look good

I get the 7". They are true to size, the drawstring is on the inside of the waistband, the pockets are deep enough to hold 2 balls comfortably during play. They'll hold 3 balls, but I don't think I've ever played with 3 balls in my pocket. There's a zipper pocket on one side.

I like them so much that I've bought several different colors: black, blue, green-ish, and gray. I prefer the non-2-in-1, but have and like both.

In fact, they are so comfortable that I have a pair on right now just wearing them around the house.

The cheapest I've ever seen them was $10, but I'll typically pay around $18-20

I used to get ads for Fabletics all the time. Finally used their new sign up deal. Shorts have been amazing quality. I now have about 10-12 of them in rotation different colors. Material is good. Has zippers in pockets, and they have what I usually can't find (5" inseam shorts). I use them for tennis/pickleball/lifting in the gym/casual off day errands.

The only catch is every beginning of the month you have to remember to cancel your VIP subscription. It will auto bill you 5th of every month. But you can still partake in the sales they do every other month. The shorts end up being $15-$20 but again, the quality is better than when I was buying random 14-20 shorts at tj Maxx or Ross or Marshalls. Well worth it than having to pay like $60+ for Nike or whatever. Tennis balls fit just fine in my pocket whether I coach or play.

I've seen those at the Hanes outlets. I thought about buying them for my growing boys. They were $10 at the time.

They have seriously become my gold standard for what shorts should be....at $10, I'm buying multiple pair. This is why I have a hard time paying $50+ for the name brand (for which I do have several pair to compare).

Thrift shop. Sometimes the tags are still on.

Depends on the area, in my area the athletic gear 3/4 of it is all worn out.

saving posts for more ideas below,

A good one is the budget brand Target has for Running & Athletic grear that must be Running & Athletic gear as whatever the brand is, it is made like a higher end budget brand.

Walmart used to have good brands like Starter and Russel Athletic Before they went crap like Reebok rejects from the main stores that have flaws to them falling apart in months and Athletech which needs to be tried on before buying as QC is non existent so one pair might be better than the same one same model that is in your size. Most Walmart still carry Russel Athletic but more the sports Cotton Poly 50/50 made more as work gear/athleisure stuff and not the brands real sports gear they used to carry back when Russel Athletic was the sponsor of the now defunct Arena Football League.

Fabletics for their 80% off stuff.
Never tried it personally though.

I get some of their stuff for free and the shorts are good for pretty good for playing tennis. They're not the lightest, but they're good enough and have a "modern" cut. I think eventually tennis gear will catch up with running gear and we'll get lighter apparel.

There is some Running/Tennis longer shorts that have inner shorts with pockets to them made for a tennis ball sold by Chinese brands on Amazon and AliExpress.

Lots of Ultra runners and Marathoners use the shorts as well because it is hard to find shorts with more then just a back zipper pocket for running to hold sports food gel, gummies, or the soft waffles easier on hand so they do not need to on shorter long runs hold stuff on the hydration vest/backpack when not needed, same for Marathons where the average runner will need more then just sports drink at some point.
