Should A. Zverev play both Milan and London Finals ?

Semi-Pro
Milan and London finals are back to back weeks. I know Zverev is young, but that's a lot of tennis. I think he has a better chance of winning Milan, he leads the race by about 3000 pts. Then again, Next Gen ATP Finals don't accumulate any points, so I don't see the point of him playing it.

I think he should skip Milan, and focus on getting points at the London finals and trying to win a more prestigious tournament, but it probably looks bad that the point leader of the Next Gen Finals skips the event.

I only like the idea of him playing Milan to vulture it and show he's the boss of the NextGen, but that's about it :p The tournament itself wasn't such a terrible idea, but with all those new rules it's a joke now, no one takes it seriously and it won't add anything important to his résumé.

So yes, he should skip it and focus on doing well in London.

He's shown he can compete with the men. Time to prove he can compete with the boys. A standby can take his place at the YEC.

At least that would increase the chances of ando be in the WTF. A Nadal-Ando rematch would be so exciting.

(guys it's a joke. please)

man calm down a little, there is more regret in not doing it, he will have many years to play in the atp finals, but how many for the "junior" ones? really there are like 3-4 years of chance that you have and then you can never play it again, besides you basically have to manage to take "shortcuts" to grow as a player enough to be able to do that, he should play it, and have fun with it, this could become one day a GOAT debate stat, people will discuss whether if all time greats managed to win both or just even play both a the same time, unlike other troublesome things players have to go through, this is a nice problem to have for a change

what a unique achievement it would be to dominate his peers and make a decent run in London? Zverev still sucks at slams so it is not like he is firmly established, plus he probably won't be eligible for this opportunity ever again.

Go for it. Rest is around the corner.

On the other side if he decides to not play, ATP won't be happy. They advertised the Event and Zverev as best player under 21 quite a lot.

We don't know if the event will prove to be anything until it runs for a few years. People have had this same argument over the Lave Cup. Silly and useless discussion - if he plays, he does, if he doesn't, then he moves on.

well... if it's really as they promoted it (mini-tennis played with 3-games sets, no-ad and pink/green foam balls), he'll still be fresh as a daisy after playing it.

He should. I think he should treat the Milan as his practice matches to get ready for London. I think he could win both.

he should show he can compete with the men, not the boys, by playing London.

next gen finals is gimmicky, I'm surprised they haven't add walk on music and given each player nicknames.

I don't think he will play Milan. He is already suffering of overplaying

Biggest simpleton on the planet if he plays Milan. An I firmly stand by this statement.

They should be happy a guy under 21 is actually doing something meaningful in the Big Boys circuit instead of weeping over a useless event.

Agree with this statements above. And so does Alex:

Alex Zverev: “This is something I'm going to talk about with my whole team, but London is obviously the bigger event out of those two. If I have to choose one, it's going to be London.”

He's not playing Milan.

Shapovalov will most likely win Milan.

He should play London. Not to prove anything to anybody but any chance he gets to have a shot at the elite top 8 will be the right barometer for his self analysis and improvement for next year. You don't get to play top 8 in every slam or masters. Most of the time either he loses early (so far except this year) or the Big 4 are absent. This will be the right year for him, and a perfect debut at WTF to reach SF from his group and take a shot at Fedals. Not for money, not to prove he is a man above boy but simply to put his head down, give his best and make use of the opportunity to learn.

Pretty sure what the Z-Bot means is he'll be checking in on this thread on the run-up

The finer dynamics of the Tour and his future legacy as an ATG are properly weighed here

Don’t think Milan will be as easy for him as people say. Those are all good players and Zverev can lose to guys like them on bad days. Remember he lost to Chung 4 and 1 in Barcelona. He can lose to Shapo and Rublev as well, easily. So it’s definitely not a given that he’ll win and no way will it be an effortless week of tennis.

To be honest I'm pretty sure he can handle both. No deuce games with 4 game sets are gonna whiz by, when Rafa played with Verdasco at the Fast4 event, it went 5 sets with a couple of breakers, even then it was under 2 hours (and that's by Rafa's pace too).
About like walkin the dog.

It would be prudent to avoid Coric.

He should play the year end Exo, have cocktails and hors d'oervres with Federer and pick up the easy $. The last thing he needs with the holidays approaching is to get roughed up by Coric.

I'd be more worried about Borna than Shampoo or Andrey. Alex has a positive H2H against most of his possible rivals in the NextGen Finals (including DS and AR) except for Hyeon and Borna. I honestly don't trust Hyeon enough to defeat him and if you count juniors matches he even has a negative H2H against Alex  so that leaves us with Coric as the only party spoiler, and Z has always had a hard time when playing against him

The WTF is the real deal for an adult pro. Milan is just a sideshow to give the kids something to do. It's basically the difference between the adult tour and the junior tour. It's a no-brainer for Zverev!

which BMW model is that?

M2, M4?
Don't know, but maybe you can tell with this picture:D

i8 and it is money; just what Zverev needed for his ego:rolleyes:

Zverev has pulled out of Milan and I don't blame him. Clearly wearing down and his serving against Simon yesterday was awful. Simon really bled Zverev with gruelling rallies and he's lucky he won the match in straight sets and has a day off.

The whole next gen thing needs to stop. Let the guys prove themselves. I don't remember all these gimmicks when Nadal and Djokovic came on the scene. They took down Federer on their own without any of this fanfare.
