No, yet he should add a few 500's, dropping 820 ATP points at IW M1K is tough to regain with his shortened schedule.

No, he shouldn't enter Miami. From a points perspective, he lost early last year, so not much to defend.

But, that's hardly a concern. Fed got back to #1 and got the record he wanted last year. I don't think points and rankings are on his radar any longer. For him, it truly is all about slams. None of these other tournaments matter.

He needs to rest, let the back get better and be fresh for the big push during clay and grass season. Also, Federer is looking to play for several more years. A knee jerk reaction to a QF loss in Indian Wells is pretty short-sighted, if he's only doing it for points.

Federer knows his body better than I do, so I think he'll do what is best for him. My guess is he skips Miami as planned.

He was clearly not 100% throughout the tournament and he lost a QF match to one of the 3 best players in the world. Geez. Not that big of a deal, IMO.

Rankings matter very little to Federer at this point. I don't think he cares about regaining points, nor should he. Slams are the only thing of importance to him (and an Olympic gold, but that is all but out of reach at this point). I think most knew with him announcing a reduced schedule plus Murray's second half of 2012 that Murray would overtake him for #2. He's going to be secure at #3 for a while most likely. Almost certainly not going to drop out of the top 4 until after Wimbledon.

Most likely he'll stay at #2 until clay court season when Murray has the chance to gain a ton of points. Rafa is basically only defending points until Wimbledon. Ferrer had a career year last year, so it doesn't seem likely he'll move up. And, the other guys like Berdych have a lot of ground to make up to catch Federer. If Federer stinks it up during clay season, then we could see a significant drop. But, that's a big if.
