He wasn't winning this USO regardless of what happened. He is doing fine by his standards and age, he can keep going for another four years at least.
If he wasn’t winning, atleast a GS Final/Runner-Up would be good as it gets

He should have found a different hobby. He doesn’t seem to be very good at tennis or put in the necessary work to be good at tennis . He was touted as the next Federer and he became Harold Minor to a Michael Jordan. All those years on tour and hardly anything to show for it
Please enlighten me on what different hobby he should’ve picked up since it seems like you know a lot of BS

I’m sure you play tennis, and since you’re also 33 you’re not young too. What are you smoking?

Yeah Grigor is exactly of my same age and I am certainly not that young when compared to 18-22 years olds, I used to play Tennis until 2022 ....see that's not the point, I daily train for sprints with friends who are 18-25 and preparing for cop recruitment exams & defence exams early morning, ohh man it is hard to keep up with those boys. Not because I am that unfit, it is just because energy levels are different for the ones who are in their physical peak. Tennis is a skill based game but at the highest level when they are all skilled closely Grigor is not gonna beat the ones who are at their peak and in the early - mid 20s, thats just how it works, Grigor is past his prime even though he might be producing better results now than he did for most years in his prime which is very ironic....

Why? He's only 33 and earning a lot of money. He can earn a lot more if he plays till his 36th or 37th birthday, and then retire with a great amount a live a relaxed life.
And if lucky win another masters title. A slam semis.

Who knows. He is top 12. Thrashed alcaraz a former Miami champion in miami

The way he plays he will never go deep into slams anymore.

The 2nd serve is too weak
He runs around too much to win 5-7 BO5 matches, he looked tired and no legs you could see it in the serve which kept going into The net.

Not long, but he did win 4 slams on 2 different surfaces.

Yeah he did, but I don't think he's qualified to stand as a member of some 90s Big3. His resume is barely better than Murray's and maybe not even, and Murray was a much better player for much longer

Most tennis players aren't good at anything else  so retirement is a bad idea (n)
At the very least he won't be Top 20 in the world at anything else, and probably not Top 20 million either.

Do you think the loss against Alcaraz is the match up?
He and Monfils played one of the greatest matches of the year.
Then Alcaraz just took control. Still some great points from both ends of the court, by Alcaraz almost always coming out on top.

So is Alcaraz that much better? It's like watching 2 4.0's hit when they are both on, looks great until they have to face the 4.5.
Or was if fatigue? More susceptible to the wind?

It's combination of all things. Raz last year lost to him in Miami but that was a bit faster court and raz was just a bit weaker than he is today. Yes wind also caused a lot of issues but most of the pts lost were Grigor getting beaten by pace and depth. He can't attack raz who is having foot speed of peak Monfils and hand skills of Federer. I think yesterday would probably be 6-0 6-0 if raz was just a bit more lucky.

Dimitrov expended a ton of energy in the Monfils match, and he's like 12 years older than Carlos.

Fatigue after monfils, and everything about the conditions was in Alcaraz favor. Add to that Alcaraz seems to have added a bit more weight to his shots after tweaking the racquet. Kinda the opposite of Miami last year TBH, although last night was slightly more of a beat down judging by the scoreline.

There are players older than him with lower ranking. Why should he retire if he is not injured and doing great in top 20? Retire to do what, what Jeopardy?
He is good for the game, putting bums in the seats, and also making money for himself and expanding fan-base.

Exactly

Never understood the urge ppl have to usher players out the door. IMO they just never liked that player to begin with

Also, just because someone is unlikely going to win a Slam, it doesn’t mean they have to retire. If that was the case, we would only have 10 players on the tour for ATP and maybe 20 for WTA, the rest would go home.

Seems like the popular view here is that any player who isn't a likely Slam winner is just a worthless mug. I had this debate with @David Le just a few days ago.

These people travel the world and make a million minimum on their worst years and a ton off of endorsements. And tournaments keep those endorsements going. Bumping those career earnings up helps their post retirement lifestyle. They can retire whenever they want to, not everyone is some "eye or the tiger" player who can't fathom playing if you're not at their prime.

Even dudes like Benoit Paire who is farting around in challengers have said they keep playing cause they just like flying around and visiting places.

Look at it this way - how would Gael have fared against Carlitos? I’d say the outcome would not be that much different - the young man is just on another level - feet n legs have not yet been messed up from sliding on hardcourts.
