Mind you, shes not doing anything great for tennis is she? , no interviews, 44yo tennis , will lose 1st round, withdraw from doubles etc etc etc… I heard she complained she wanted to keep the 5 town cars the whole fortnight after her first round loss. And with the USO, all the threats, fines, bad behavior,,

IS SHE STILL WORTH ALL THE TROUBLE SHE CREATES?

it was easier to give her a pass bcuz she was winning , but now what?!?! Shes old.

I think she brings enough entertainment even if for the wrong reasons, and reasons that she likely doesn’t intend.
The most annoying part will be farewell hoopla, which we already did not so long ago, and the attention all on her because it’s easy for the media.

I doubt that she will ask for a WC in singles.
She won't want to get humiliated in front of her home crowd which would be inevitable if she were to draw a top player.
Losing 16 16 or so to Rybakina for instance would be terrible

good point . But she does have the ability get “injured” at any time so she has that to fall back on
 
It all depends how much attention her brand wants and or needs..
Each mention brings brand recognition to her major non tennis sponsors. I am sure her contracts pays her very well for each view..like, etc..
Being a brand spokesperson has a very high personal gain potential..as well as the product it self..
It the modern business model..
 
For me the wildcard wasn't the issue. The issue was they tried to make her THE STORY OF WIMBLEDON. A woman we know wasn't going to be a competitor. Why was her match on center court again?

If they would of gave her a wildcard and put her on say court 18 and covered her somewhat reasonably I'd been ok with it.

Should they give her a wildcard and try to make her the main story going into the US Open like they did at Wimbledon? 1000% not. That was a black eye for the sport the way this whole thing was handled.

Give her a wildcard and put her on an outside court and let her fight her way to the bigger courts and more coverage. Then that's fine.

We all understand Serena was great. The key word being WAS. You have to live in the present not the past.

To put her on Centre Court was OK with me.
And who made her "the story of Wimbledon" and how?
Because the Wimbledon website had several stories about her comeback? So what.
Maybe you are referring to US media (TV channels) which I can't comment on since I don't consume them. But after all she is a US citizen and maybe even the greatest American player of all time. So let them do it, doesn't bother me.

Not a single any of ^^^ has to do with actual tennis.
Tennis was, is, and should always remain an actual athletic PROFESSIONAL sport. Serena should just join UTR and play matches there
 
People forget pro tennis isn’t a sport it’s a business and entertainment. She’s a big draw so she will 100% get a WC if she chooses to play.
 
The Williams sisters have no problem accepting WC’s for tournaments where they have zer0 chance of even being competitive (while bumping some young/up and coming player at every turn). All for their weird mid-40’s ego trip and selling a weight loss drug. Money cannot buy class.

Just like the current and past World Cup stars.. the fortune they achieved on the pitch brings them personal fortune off the pitch as well as their sponsors/business partners..
Build yourself.. build the brand...money will come...Hard work does pay...
 
It's mainly the tournament which is to blame, but people do love to hate her.

only if she is plays Osaka in the first round and pay Carlos Ramos or Shino Tsuburuchi to officiate it with million dollar appearance fees to tempt them out of retirement.

She had a chance of winning Round 1 if she had played a few warm-up matches to condition her body.
But she couldn't be bothered.

Instead, she parachutes into Wimbledon with zero prep and injures her knee in the very first set -- after playing just one hour of singles.
The vials of synovial fluid drained from her knee means that it would have been impossible to recover for Round 2.

She wants an easy shortcut. Whether it be in competition or in weight loss.

I don’t think it’s right to give her one as it takes away another player’s spot who’s been working to get in, and definitely could use the money more than she can. Knowing how the USO works, I wouldn’t be surprised if she got one though.
 
She'll get a Wild Card to any event she wants until she's at a level where she would obviously be the worst player in the tournament. When the likes of Maya Joint can give her a beatdown rather than playing a competitive match, is when Williams should stop getting wild cards.

It wouldn't be a bad idea if her first-round opponent gave the boastful Williams' younger sister a breadstick and a bagel.
It would do her ego "good" to be humiliated in her own home.

Losing badly in front of 20,000 is the ultimate reality check.
There is a reason she did not do the post-match interview. Her pride was hurt.

Margaret Court urged her to stick to doubles and said she has no idea why she's playing singles.

What is the point of entering a singles slam if you are unfit (no singles matches in four years), overweight and physically incapable of going past Round 1?

It is an insult to every single WTA 100 singles player that she dares to deem herself to be competitive with them.

The 20-year-old nervous Maya Joint (with a pitiful 3-15 record this year) actually played a poor match and should have dispensed with her much quicker.

She will have to decide if her GLP-1 sales and whatever attention she is craving is worth the cost of yet another humiliating public Round 1 defeat.

Hopefully, her big fat ego will keep her arrogance in check. Her ego will contrain her arrogance and not allow her to be subject to yet another humiliating singles defeat.

I think she will take a WC. Crazy thing is that joint was 3-18 I believe for 2026 on the WTA tour. What if Serena had played a top 10 opponent? I’m sure the USO will make sure that doesn’t happen either. I imagine she will draw a qualifier or another player that is struggling.

No she shouldn't get a WC.
But the tournament will give to her, such a big name and night session tickets will sell
 
Give her a wild card. It will be entertaining watching her get eliminated (again) in the first round.
Everyone will have a good laugh watching her lumber around the court like a bull elephant.
 
Instead of WC...Perhaps the USO should have her and the other great champions of the past play in a doubles exhibition match like they are doing with Fed, Roddick, Andre, J Mac..
I just saw tickets prices for that match.. impressive.. they make world cup tickets seem like a bargain..
