Like most, not always but she did win 23 slams in singles, 14 doubles and had made millions on and off the court.
Anyone who pays a high price to see that old timers doubles exhibition is either a fool or has lots of money to throw away.

There should be a minimal sane standard of entry, to protect the integrity of the sport, such as one must have won a singles match in the last three years.

She played Wimbledon on a Wildcard, Wimbledon is printing money with or without Serena, same will apply for the US Open. The US Open, to the detriment of the fans, will be more than happy to tell everyone that they’re breaking attendance records, this will happen in 2026 whether Serena is there or not.
In a way isn’t the Arthur Fery story kind of showing maybe why Serena and Venus shouldn’t be getting a main draw wildcard. Just a thought.

ESPN had record-high viewership for a first round match.
But that is a very low bar; viewership for a first round match is always very low.
Wimbledon has a 10-year deal with ESPN; the payments to Wimbledon have long been settled and fixed.
Wimbledon is not collecting one penny more from ESPN as a result of her appearance.
And of course, Wimbledon ticket sales always do well with or without Miss GLP-1

glad you posted thatBecause she doesn't want to put in the work and actually train for a singles match.
She had a chance of winning Round 1 if she had played a few warm-up matches to condition her body.
But she couldn't be bothered.
Instead, she parachutes into Wimbledon with zero prep and injures her knee in the very first set -- after playing just one hour of singles.
The vials of synovial fluid drained from her knee means that it would have been impossible to recover for Round 2.
She wants an easy shortcut. Whether it be in competition or in weight loss.
I wonder if she ever went the way of Nadal where he used otherwise banned substances in order to recover from his injuries while most players never used this avenue.
