Should the tournament calendar for the rest of the year go ahead?

After the Covid fallout from the Adria Tour, should competitive tennis be suspended until IW 2021, the first tournament to be cancelled? That would mean everyone starting with the same points they had when the tour shut down to make it a level playing field. So far, they haven't decided on what to do with the points for tournaments that will be cancelled not rescheduled. Playing in front of empty seats for up to 5 hours at a time over 2 weeks wouldn't be much fun at all. Players also need to be relaxed and not worry about what they touch and whether everyone around them is Covid free.

The virus should be much more under control so it will be safer.

It should go ahead as planned without crowds.
COVID-19 will not end on 31/12/20 or after the Australian Open and could continue for years. There will always be positive cases. Other sports have already resumed or are planning to resume in the near future. This is the new normal, the world and tennis in this case need to learn to adapt.

They should start planning now for the 2021 season and ensure that safety protocols are in place and plan for no fans. I would say you could put together a reasonably safe plan to start in January as long as there are no ball kids, no linespeople and no fans for the 2021 season. Use hawkeye to call lines besides the chair umpire and give players unlimited challenges. But this year there should be no tennis!

The Adria Tour was not a good look but there have been plenty of tournaments that ran with no issues. There are some being played as we speak

If you start panicking and canceling tournaments because players test positive you might as well not hold them at all, because more positive tests will come

Compared to Adria Tour the US will have far better safety measures.

Only Djokovic would make me say that.

that's a fair proposal,
but if by December the pandemic has been contained by a medicament, then i can't see Australia giving up the AO.
economic forces are too strong for this proposal, i think. the tour will continue as soon as it's fairly reasonable (or even a little earlier than that).

watching some tennis this year sounds still attractive to me,
but i don't know the plans/guidelines for the players' accomodation in NY, and if they will be tested for Covid and what would happen and so on.
i don't fear for the players' health, it's just that it would be crap if some players had to be excluded for the frikking virus at some point of this season.

I'm not sure this virus will ever be under control until if and when there is a vaccine.

No need to cxl just because of the extreme over the top recklessness of the Adria Tour. It's almost like they were TRYING to get covid.

It's like taking away everyone's driver's license because one family was pulled over driving drunk, going 100 mph while hanging out of the windows. Not everyone is an idiot like Novak.
